Yes. Most use the 9 pin Julet waterproof connector which use a std pin layout. It is a bit extreme as a new hub and then the cost of getting it laced/trued up Vs a rather simple speed sensor fix that will only need a bit of time and about £15 to repair.

I assumed you are changing because of an issue, if there is no issue then no need to buy a new one or re-cell. Some batteries go on for 6, 7 years or more and for such a short journey will be fine. It is a sales pitch if they recommend to change it. I have batteries 7 years old still working well.

Naughty & bad practice using a metal tool, one should use a non conductive one. Those cells have either leaked or have seen water ingress, not surprised the welds have failed. Rusting will mean the conductive connection is also poor. At 9 yrs old it is time for a new battery/re-cell.

For wheel nut tightness I just pinch them up tight and then give a good 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

One can test the shopper with out a tyre, a simple static test will tell you if the bike works and if so one can also apply the brake at the same time to the motor wheel to see if the resistance causes any power issues with cutting out.
