Sturmey-Archer 3 speed Hub gears for crank drive Bafang

That won't work directly because your frame will have the wrong type of drop-outs to tension the chain, so your're going to need a chain tensioner of some sort. You can do it by leaving the derailleur in place, which will also allow you to keep the same chain. You then have to fix the derailleur...

    New Wisper 905 torque problem

The bit that worries me is the "put it together yesterday" implies that it came in a box. If so, did you assemble it correctly?

    Conversion kit build for Brompton

I'd say no - not that you'd notice. It would be theoretically possible to get a faster response with more magnets, but I don't believe that the software is programmed to take advantage. Some controllers have a fast response and some a slow response regardless of the type of pedal sensor. With a...

    Conversion kit build for Brompton

The 16"rim that they offer is much smaller than a Bromton one so is not suitable. If you want to buy from them, you have to buy the bare motor and build it into your own rim. This one: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/rims-tape/sun-cr18-16-x-1-38-349-abt-alloy-rim-silver-36-hole/ Woosh kit would be...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I don't hope that any biker gangs do anything. Where did you get that from? I'm only presenting the news story. It's posted on Facebook Events: https://www.facebook.com/events/s/american-patriots-retake-the-s/740456910096468/ I ask again, are you going to denounce the Guardian and petition for...

    Bewildered!

I would avoid the Specialized for the reasons I stated above, plus my spider senses say that there have been more reports of problems from them than other bikes. Stick with Bosch, Shimano or Chinese if you can. If you don't care about money, so you can buy a new bike when it goes wrong, get...

Hub motor swap from Bafang to MXUS

That's where you get maximum current. when the motor gets up to speed, the current goes down independent of anything the controller does. The controllers always blow first. I've never seen a hub-motor of the types we use burn in normal use, even when they've been substantially over-powered...

Bosch Motor shutdown, Error 503, get you home only.

Good comment, but you got the efficiency the wrong way round. Every test has shown that either hub-motors are more efficient or they have similar efficiency. It's a complete fallacy that crank-motors are more efficient. I'm still waiting for anyone to provide alternative test results that show...

    Assistance with Brightbike

It should be no problem to stick a 24v lithium cell pack in there as long as you make sure that it can provide enough current. the controller should have the max current written on it. Add 5 amps as a safety margin. One thing others don't seem to have spotted is the optical pedal sensor, which...

Hub motor swap from Bafang to MXUS

Controllers often have solder on the shunt from the factory. It's not the weight or hills that damage controllers, it's the speed. You mustn't go too slow with maximum power. Obviously weight affects your speed on inclines and your acceleration.

    Thumb throttle installation help

That's an interesting device. I've not see the interface unit before. It could be worth a punt. The only potential problem I can see is where to put it on the handlebars. Make sure that you have the space for it considering the brake lever and gear shifter.

    Thumb throttle installation help

The black and white are for brakes. One side is 5v and the other ground, but it's not a real 5v. It's held at 5v by a high value resistor, so you can't take any current from it. The 5v wire is connected to the CPU. When you close the brake switch, it collapses to 0v, i.e, the CPU sees 5v when...

    Bewildered!

You can buy 5 Halfords Pendleton Somerbys for £2500, so even if you had to buy twice, you'd still be £1500 better off or £3000 better of if both you and your wife buy them. All electric bikes give problems at some point in the future. Its not possible to make a rule as to which ones are the...

    Thumb throttle installation help

No, you can't do that. The pedal sensor sends a pulsed signal. The controller only checks to see if that wire is pulsing in the right pattern. When it sees it, it gives the power set on the control panel. The walk assist is a simple yes or no switch that the controller monitors. When the switch...

Advice please.... Pro Rider E-Wayfarer controller.

Does anybody else want to explain it or translate? P3 =1 sets it to current control, where you get a different constant current in each level, with small current on level 1 and max current on level 5. There is only the global speed limit on each level. P3=0 sets it to speed control, where you...

    Greenbikekit downtube HL battery 36v 35e cells 23.4ah - £239 - any good?

Where did you get £239 from? I would have thought that it'll be a lot dearer than that. By the time you add shipping and tax it must be at least £300. Choose a BMS with at least 5A headroom. GBK are pretty good. They've been around for a long time. I've had about 5 orders from them.

    Battery question

Around 21V. Some batteries give voltage sag. that means that the voltage goes down a few volts when you draw high power, so the cut off could occur when the battery is at 24v. Also, batteries recover a bit after they've cut off, so if you measured the battery when you got home after it cut off...
