    Brexit, for once some facts.

Agreed, and that's the point. For much of the world they are 21st century exports. Peanuts. They cannot begin to sustain this country of 66 millions that needs to import so much. Nor are they an open door, many other countries can easily match us in some of these. Services falls into this...

I agree, even if we do get a deal of sorts I still see us slipping behind Italy very quickly. With no deal the slide down the rankings will be very fast, since we have so little to export to the rest of the world and our loss of services income will be difficult to offset. .

    Musings on an Ezee

As VFR says, the Ezee bikes are definitely speed control, both my models clearly indicating that. It was most obvious on the Quando, not just measured wheel off the ground, the road assist speed very noticeably linked to the battery state of charge/voltage. .

    First bicycle road accident tonight.

I blame the badge, they think they can run rings around everyone. ;) I'm glad another car also stopped for you, you're lucky to get that these days when the "bikes are a nuisance" syndrome is still very evident among car drivers. Long ago when seeing a motorcyclist knocked off by a right...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

That was the bank rate for a short while in the mid Thatcher period, but mortgage rates were mainly set by longer term trends then. It just meant a brief halt in the housing market. It was very profitable for me since I was able to buy almost £40k in government bonds at 15% interest paid for...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

These are all incredible rates compared to what we had to suffer long ago. Most of my mortgage experience is at around 6% with one period of four years at an unavoidable 9%. Imagine the payments at that swingeing rate! These were the downside of the lower house prices of very long ago...

Good to learn, I'm very pleased for you. My only regret is that you couldn't have got to this stage about 20 years earlier in life as I was able to. .

I don't think so, since two consecutive and long prorogues would be unprecedented. There could be no other reason for them than Johnsons true intention, the obstruction of parliament I agree, since the Court will want to avoid interference in politics. As with our High Court, they will have...

If true they shouldn't be that complacent, since it's likely the Queen would refuse a further proroguing. The Queen only ever acts in such matters on advice and I think it likely the palace would advise that a further prorogue expressly to defeat the will of parliament would be her interfering...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Absolutely, our leaving the EU makes it a de facto hard border, regardless of any Good Friday agreement. Leaving the EU means that agreement will have to change, either in fact or in interpretation. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

There's been no need to pull Britain down since before 1930, it's been sliding downwards all by itself ever since then. The downward trend was slowed considerably by our EU membership, but it's now got up to speed with a vengeance. .

Horses for courses, my situation is very much the opposite The large more distant Sainsburys is the best of the lot, always with plenty of spaces in its huge parking area, while the local Aldi and Lidl are a parking nightmare, far more cars than places and tailbacks into the roads causing local...

But as you acknowledged, it's not all the same. It's not only about better quality on the items the discounters aren't so good on, I'm also shopping from a vast range of quality goods that the discounters could only dream of stocking. .

Not always madness, it would be mad of me not to use the best. I really can't be bothered going though all that Aldi and Lidl sell to find out what's good and what's not, since price is irrelevant to me, and I don't want to do multiple part shops. I don't even know what I pay for most items...

There is a requirement for basic training and it is prosecutable, but that usually only crops up after accidents (of which there are many). In practice a very large proportion of all fork lift operation is done by unqualified people, though many have had some in house training, which is what I...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

That wasn't the case, it was a new condition that Lidl imposed, causing quite a storm. I'm strongly opposed to it on safety grounds since driver stop time is legally rest time off the tachograph, not fork lift driving time or other work time. There's also the fact that fork lift operators...
