    Carrera vulcan crank sensor.

Mud, dirt and sand are OK. What isn't OK is dirty water, like you get on wet winter roads saturated in salt. The water is thrown up by the front wheel straight onto the crank, where it creeps in through the gaps. You need a proper mudguard with a flap or extender to keep the water down, or you...

    Throttles allowed?

There was and still is a massive crackdown on illegal pedicabs in London. Those ones that you saw most likely met the minimum legal requirements.

New to it .... and naturally a problem to solve .................

The control system is a bit unusual. It has a two position switch somewhere. It might be the key switch or a separate one. I can't remember now. If I remember right, in one position, the power comes from the throttle whenever you're pedalling. In the other position, the power comes from the...

Battery question ..confused as i have a tbi (brain injury)

It's a 24v battery. A seven cell lithium 24v battery charges to 29.4V. The charging voltage will be written on the charger's label. The original Cyclamatic battery had 22750 cells that are fatter than the 18650 cells that you find in most batteries, so make sure you get the exact size of any...

    Battery Advice required

It's not worth the investment and effort to make a single battery. It will work out a lot more expensive and probably less reliable than a bought one. Only invest in self-building if you plan to make several batteries or your requirements are so specific that you can't buy one like that. Bear...

    Real Bicycle Bells

I saw this in Halfords today. It's about the closest you can get to the original Raleigh bell. It has the traditional tring tring ring and a metal thumb lever that won't break like the plastic ones. https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-accessories/mirrors-bells-and-horns/halfords-black-metal-bell

Zefal Cyclop Triple Adjustment Bar End Mounted Bike Mirror

As I said, remove the screw that holds the mirror stork onto the other part, then you'll see the adjusting screw underneath. There are three screws that hold it together and adjust the friction. One is in the end of the bit that goes into the handlebar, one is in the middle and holds the two...

Zefal Cyclop Triple Adjustment Bar End Mounted Bike Mirror

The friction in all axes of movement is adjustable. You must have missed the middle adjustment screw that you have to adjust before you assemble the mirror. Now you have to remove the top screw and the mirror to get at it. There is no need to hold anything with tape.

    Throttles allowed?

When I'm out and about doing my bike repairs I hear a lot of interesting stories. The latest one goes something like this. A large pizza chain wants to buy a very large number of ebikes for pizza deliveries. A known ebike supplier comes up with a proposal and explains the restrictions on...

    Troubleshooting dead battery?

One of your cells is down, so the management system has switched off the internal charging switch. You have to pull back the blue heatshrink until you can get to the multipin connector. Unplug it and measure the voltage on each pin. Each pin is for one of the 10 cells. the difference in voltage...

CycloTricity Stealth 48V/1000W problem - battery or motor?

You need to do some tests to find out what's wrong. If the LCD has a flat connector disconnect it, bridge the red and blue wires and bridge the white and yellow ones so only the black is not connected. If the bike works like that without the LCD then the LCD is faulty. Lift the back wheel and...

    Chain cleaning device whilst riding?

The rain does a good job of cleaning off the oil and grease from the chain while you ride. You need a hat to keep the rain off your head otherwise you end up with frizzy hair.

    Motor + Pedal

Your Bafang motor will turn as long as you pedal. It has a maximum speed, may be 20 or 22 mph. If the wheel turns faster than that, the clutch disengages so the wheel can turn at 25 mph but the motor is spinning at 20 mph without giving any power until your speed drops down to the motor's...

    Troubleshooting dead battery?

When your battery won't charge, you need to do two things to find out why. Measure the voltage on the battery's charge socket and measure the voltage on the charger's connector when it's switched on. Those two results will indicate what's causing your problem. My ransom guess says there's no...

    Pendleton Somerby battery advice please?

The 30 secondpress completely shuts down the battery for when you want to store the bike or otherwise not use it for a while. I've not used one of those batteries, but sleeping ones are usually wokenup by a long press or plugging in the charger for a while.

    Pendleton Somerby battery advice please?

Whenthe bike is switched on at the control panel, try a short press of the switch on the battery. If it switches off the control panel, it has switched off the battery too. If that doesn't work, try holding the switch down for a few seconds to see if it switches off.

    Incorrect speed

It's quite common for those magnets to become unglued. If you can find it in there you can glue it back with epoxy. Many controllers have a stting for the number of magnets, so if one has gone you can change it from 6 to 5 to compensate. For peace of mind, I'd want to know where the magnet is...
