    Carrying a laptop?

Not on your lap... :D If you laptop doesn't survive an accident in its padded carry bag it is usually a serious accident. Worst problem is water and for that I use rubbish bags to keep everything dry.

I think the police and media need to take an electric bike recognition course :)

"Electronic bike" so maybe the front man ("communication of very important stuff to the public, officer") could take some English language classes?

A small cheap motorbike trailer would work better for a small car @Suseka. You can get one for £50 on e-bay.

New GSM kit fitted but will not kick in on hills ?

Looking for something else I came across this thread again What do you mean by unrestricted? I can't get mine to use more than 15 Amps - controller maximum - and that is enough for 40-45 km/h in 5th or 6th gear on the flat. I am burning through the Watt hours rather quickly but the battery...

Cunning Chinese! Now if only the mainland Chinese would get interested in good industrial design like that... Back in the day I read that Giant's design studio was in the USA (California?), is that still the case?

Overtaking on the inside or the outside

I adapt to the situation, passing where there is space and after making my presence and intentions clear to the car in front. Some don't like it but that is their problem not mine. By the time they get moving again i am often at my destination. Most of the grumpy motorists come from regions of...

    Two wheel drive electric bike

Not in EN 15194, it is ONE motor. In flecs example when the motor is closed it is considered as one motor with one drive shaft. This has probably not been tested in law but the text is pretty clear that they only allow one motor.

    Cycle Sat nav

Me too. Mine is a smartphone in sheep's clothing, er, something like that. It doesn't have a SIM card so it ain't a phone just a smaller tablet. If I need to phone someone in an emergency I ask them to use their phone, costs less than a mobile phone plan :D

    Cycle Sat nav

£150!!! That is slightly more than 59€ for a cheap smartphone... Opencyclingmap is a layer over openstreetmaps. And the advantage is you can also have Strava and a GPS application for the boat and whatever on the same device as long as you have the memory. Dedicated GPS for me is a non starter...

    Kudos Alamo/Stealth v G-tech e-bike.

No, sorry trex :p There is a screw on freewheel sprocket. But you may have beltline issues with a hub motor. You would need an eccentric bottom bracket to tension the belt. More seriously a chain fully enclosed in a Hebie Chainglider is just as clean and the quarter of the price of a belt drive...

What do you think of my new bike-rack bag?

So you wear rain gear to your destination and have a dry set of rain gear in your bag for the return journey?

    Making my own Boardman Ebike?

Yes, a 7-8 speed cassette hub motor is as wide as a stock hub with a 9-11 speed cassette. 135 to 138 mm dropout width. Table here: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/frame-spacing.html

    Making my own Boardman Ebike?

It depends on your frame whether the 11 speed will fit or not. When I mounted mine it said "maximum 8 speed" and the 7 speed slipped in without having to spread the dropouts. Steel frame yes, aluminium no for spreading wider. Best bet with an 11 speed would be to mount a mid-drive kit.
