Post 2016 throttles are configured to be used if you pedal first. Some LCD's/systems may let you change the parameter setting to stand alone /full throttle though the law states this is illegal.

Use 14g tried, tested and works. 14g has a bit more elasticity and give. Try lacing a new spoke in to a wheel when replacing a broken one, 14g is so much easier to manipulate then a 12 or 13g.

Being under warranty if you take it back and they notice it's been tampered with, it may cost you more for a replacement.
