Which other forums do you frequent?

The Natural History Museum forum where I work as a species identifier on inquiries from members of the public. My specialist areas mean that's mainly in the Summer and Autumn, though occasionally there's delayed questions cropping up at any time. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Why not read what I posted? I haven't disputed the Ukraine's independence, it's a fact. What I pointed out, but you and those disagreeing appeared to have ignored, was that the Eastern territories that they were managing for the USSR while in the USSR are Russian lands. In the chaos of the...

See this reply above Tommie. The Ukrainians are responsible for their own deaths, it was completely unnecessary. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

This is the fundamental Western lie, there are no separatist Ukrainian regions, they are Russian. When Krushchov reorganised regional management in the USSR, the Ukraine within the USSR had the responsibility to manage those adjacent regions. When the USSR collapsed and the Ukraine sought...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

It does exactly that as you explain in saying proxy wars. Conflicts using fall guys like the Koreans and Vietnamese as the front for participation by the big boys. That left the big boys free to detach at any time, with one of them not being the loser they would be in a direct declaration of...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

In speech in parliament Honourable Member addresses ordinary members of parliament, Right Honourable Member addresses Privy Councillors. The Privy Council is a body advising the Sovereign, mainly made up of current or past senior politicians. The suffix to My (Right) Honourable is Friend for a...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I don't know what you mean by this, no Ukrainians are dying under a Russian occupation. Exactly my point. We've been here before and it didn't result in WW3, not could it have. It's pointless you posting reams of stuff I'm already familiar with. National administrations look after their...

They still do imply that though. The classic is: "That is not my recollection of the events." Which when said with calm authority by a very senior member leaves no doubt that they are saying, "You are a liar". .

It doesn't, this privilege is very limited, see this Wikipedia extract: In the United Kingdom, it allows members of the House of Lords and House of Commons to speak freely during ordinary parliamentary proceedings without fear of legal action on the grounds of slander, contempt of court or...

Throttles why do they go bad so easily?

Yes I'm aware of that and fully agree about the Cycle Analyst products and Justin's work. But the vast majority of e-bikers wouldn't be interested and some like Shan in a current thread are wholly against complicating e-bikes further. I'm in that camp too, preferring to keep as close as...

Throttles why do they go bad so easily?

Thanks for the information, but £100+ for something to correct what should have been right in the first place! Perhaps acceptable to an enthusiast, but not the average person buying an e-bike. Having said that the law has now solved the problem for most by excluding throttles in favour of...

Throttles why do they go bad so easily?

I have no problem with finesse at a standstill or on a very smooth road, but at speed on our typically bumpy roads it's a different matter. It's often either choosing on or off, or attempting fine control and having a rapidly snatching on/off judder as the bike twitches about. The range of...

Exactly what is the 'Rat trap' for

I've just remembered I had another use for the carrier sping clip. On my Dutch throwover panniers I slit and hemmed the cross panel so I could use the sping clip to hold the pannier set in place. It worked well, here's a photo showing that:

The Dutch do sensible panniers with thin but rigid pannier liner inserts that keep them in shape, but difficult to get hold of in the UK. Here's mine:

Why did you buy an e-bike ?

And of course I've long done the same, as this link to my trailers page shows. For many years I did all my routine shopping by bike using these very large panniers. But my above post illustrated the way most in Britain view the situation, and we are unlikely to convert them into being Dutch or...

Why did you buy an e-bike ?

Although e-bike prices can be offputting, I think there are much bigger factors at play in peoples choice of a car: 1) Weather, cars warm and dry. 2) Family and friends, the ability to carry them important. 3) Transporting items, such as those trips to the recycling centre and collecting...

The Royal Army Medical Corp could be a convenient compromise. ;) Seriously, probably both, but whatever is given will be announced at least three times over a long period to give the impression of generous fundings. .

Why did you buy an e-bike ?

With ever increasing age and the British weather, I'm increasingly finding a car can be a pedelec substitute. ;) .

Throttles why do they go bad so easily?

I prefer twistgrip throttles, but they are also often unreliable and sometimes flimsy. I think the entire design of e-bike throttles is rubbish, Hall sensors in this sort of usage are too much like on-off switches. .
