E-BIKES ARE TAKING OFF IN THE UK – AND A NEW TAX BREAK COULD ENCOURAGE EVEN MORE PEOPLE TO SADDLE UP

Wander, as long as the sum of (rentals + final sale) inclusive of VAT is more than 25% of the original purchase price inclusive of VAT, you can word it any way you like. In my model for basic tax rate payer, the total paid is £465 + VAT (£558 inc VAT), if your are the employer, you can rent out...

E-BIKES ARE TAKING OFF IN THE UK – AND A NEW TAX BREAK COULD ENCOURAGE EVEN MORE PEOPLE TO SADDLE UP

yes, I am aware of this. The valuation table gives 25% of ex VAT value as fair market value after one year, a £1,000 Big Bear will be valued at £250 including VAT. It does not cause any problem when the total net deduction is higher than £250 - that is the case for our test case, a 20% tax...

by trials. I start at £50 a month, then increase it until the net disbursement goes low enough. If you put £68 a month into cell B3, the employer can give the bike away at the end, saving an invoice. Don't take me wrong, I like what you do.

E-BIKES ARE TAKING OFF IN THE UK – AND A NEW TAX BREAK COULD ENCOURAGE EVEN MORE PEOPLE TO SADDLE UP

    Rob, Column B represents the user perspective. You put into cell B2 the inc VAT price of the bike (£1,000), B3 the gross monthly amount of salary sacrifice (£67). Cell B4 = 12 * B3, 12 month salary sacrifice (£804). Cell B6 = B4 * 12%, employee's national insurance Cell B7 = B4 * 20%, 12 month...

Adjusting the height of the Promax stem

Hello Hubear, Your Zephyr-B has a Promax adjustable stem. It is attached to the fork's steerer tube with a wedge nut. The range of adjustment in height is about 4 inches. To adjust the height, first loosen the wedge nut. To loosen the wedge nut: 1) Slide down the safety latch (arrow), lift up...

Hi Rob, this is the breakdown for a self administered scheme including accounting for VAT. Savings: 44% for basic rate tax payers, 53% for higher rate tax payers. How much does your scheme save for these two categories?

E-BIKES ARE TAKING OFF IN THE UK – AND A NEW TAX BREAK COULD ENCOURAGE EVEN MORE PEOPLE TO SADDLE UP

I did quote the relevant paragraph in the guidance regarding VAT that is applicable when your company signs up with a scheme provider whereby there is a provision of a voucher: The guidance document says nothing about charging VAT on rentals when your company runs your own scheme. The previous...

E-BIKES ARE TAKING OFF IN THE UK – AND A NEW TAX BREAK COULD ENCOURAGE EVEN MORE PEOPLE TO SADDLE UP

Of course that makes sense. However, there are a lot of benefits in kind like company cars where the employees are not charged VAT. I have produced a spreadsheet for those who want to investigate running their own C2W scheme in the previous post, with VAT. The maximum saving for basic rate tax...

If anyone wants to check out the numbers, here is a spreadsheet I just made for C2W with VAT: http://wooshbikes.co.uk/C2W-with-VAT.xls You can test with different amount in the purchase price and gross monthly sacrifice to see how much saving you can make. For a basic rate tax payer, the...

In case that the employer elects to charge VAT on rentals: Let's calculate for example someone on basic tax rate wanting to get a Big Bear for £1,000. Purchase: £1,000 Salary sacrifice in 12 months (60% of purchase price): £600 Employee tax @ 20%: £120 Employee NI @ 12%: £72 Employee net...

E-BIKES ARE TAKING OFF IN THE UK – AND A NEW TAX BREAK COULD ENCOURAGE EVEN MORE PEOPLE TO SADDLE UP

it's not difficult, David. In my view, a self administered scheme is a lot simpler than signing up with one of the providers. Do you know how many pages the contract with cyclescheme has? If sites like pedelecs.co.uk take on the task to explain to employers that it's not difficult then we may...

E-BIKES ARE TAKING OFF IN THE UK – AND A NEW TAX BREAK COULD ENCOURAGE EVEN MORE PEOPLE TO SADDLE UP

Hi Rob, it seems that the VAT rule concerns scheme providers whereby the scheme providers buy the bikes, recover the VAT and collect the rents. It makes sense that the VAT should be charged on rentals. Even if the employer elects to charge VAT on rentals too their employees, the amount of...

Does the bike I need exist at the right price...

the hub motors can do easily 5,000+ miles, some manage 10,000 without maintenance, the result varies because people are different. The non-motor wheel, usually the front wheel, has an ordinary hub which costs about $3 apiece. This hub is not very robust for being made from alloy and simple ball...

Does the bike I need exist at the right price...

practically all the popular hub motors are Chinese. Bafang and 8Fun are the same company. They are the biggest and arguably the best although the best known brands in hub motors like Crystalyte, 9-continent, Dapu etc are not the biggest.

Does the bike I need exist at the right price...

You can use the Crystalyte 404 with Ezee 48V 11AH battery, 25A controller to simulate your Stealth. Select the Bafang BPM with 36V 14AH battery, 20A controller for the Big Bear, For the Oxygen and Rio, the motor is SWX02, the BPM is a pretty good approximation for SWX02. The maximum torque is a...

Does the bike I need exist at the right price...

I use the motor simulator at ebikes.ca. The battery consumption is mainly a function of speed, weight and the percentage of pedaling you put in. You can select all the parameters yourself. I use the Bafang BPM with 20A controller to simulate the BBS01/BBS02. Your range will drop very sharply...

Does the bike I need exist at the right price...

the motor is similar to Bafang BBS01, you get about 30-35 miles from an 11AH batttery. The main thing is Chinese hubs are not very good, the ball bearings go at around 3,000 miles. You need better wheels for 8,000 miles a year. CD motors also need greasing more than small geared hubs.

this one of theirs is not bad, £870, I know the motor's manufacturer well: http://greenwaycycles.co.uk/electric/157-electric-mountain-bike-7426818350541.html Again, it's easy to upgrade tyres and maintain. Range is about the same for this motor. From my range of bikes, the Rio MTB is the nearest...
