Why driving isn't fun anymore :(

I don't disagree and drive predomominantly in the n/s lane when I can. But in the South East on the M1, M2, M20, M25, M23, and M3 it's impossible most of the time between early morning and very late evening. That's why some of those have lane speed cameras, coping with the congestion by...

Should we be suprised by the Brexit victory?

It's impossible to run a country and satisfy more than a tiny proportion of it's people. The only reason anyone might want to do the impossible job of running a country is as an outlet for their desire for power. Never take any notice of the would be MP who says they want to serve and help...

Why driving isn't fun anymore :(

Impractical though. When the nearside lane is full of heavies it's necessary to stay in the middle lane for very protracted periods. And when that's also clogged and locked at 60 mph or so by those who won't drive faster, the faster traffic fills the outside lane. That's the reality most of...

Why driving isn't fun anymore :(

I still enjoy it in the South East most of the time, but timing and choice of roads is everything. Get either of those wrong and it's hell, so local knowledge is vital for each journey. .

Should we be suprised by the Brexit victory?

That's undeniable. The biggest lies were those at the time of John Major signing us up to Maastricht and a future single country called Europe. .

Should we be suprised by the Brexit victory?

Yes it's very wrong and we really should be attending to that and such similar matters, instead of allowing the scale of abuse of the benefits system that exists, both by our own population and a minority of immigrants. .

And we'll have to continue to buy the parts for the vast number of German cars we already have here, itself a substantial scale of imports from the EU. .

That sounds horribly like the old saying, "If rape is inevitable, lay back and think of England". .

Should we be suprised by the Brexit victory?

Quite right Phill, everywhere, including in London, there are those coming in just for the benefits. They are mostly in small numbers though and only a fraction of those who come here to work. Much of the problem is that our rules allow abuse. Take the case of the Romanian man who is...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I don't live in a small world, I merely made the example relevant to this website's membership. The point being that national governments within the EU have considerable freedom to act independently and are usually not blocked in that by EU rigidity. Such rigidity that does exist is there to...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

How wrong you are, you only have to look at our own field to know that. The EU made a set of rules to permit pedelecs free of motor vehicle bureacracy, in addition to two other classes of moped. That left an eventual need for a faster class which Germany filled with a national S class of...

Don't be so easily fooled. Yes we'll leave, but I think the form that departure takes may well leave you very dissatisfied. .

Don't count your chickens Dave. If we end up with full market access but outside the EU in a trade only deal, the paperwork will increase. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Selfishly? Who on earth do you think has been keeping this country afloat with their earnings? The Cities like London of course, losing almost all of what they earn to carry the rest of the country. We have many desparate needs in London , far greater than anywhere else in the UK, and we earn...

The operative word there is "politician", of course they will say that to placate the leavers and get the upper hand. Just wait for the reality of the outcome. .

Should we be suprised by the Brexit victory?

Not really. Certainly some of the threats were stupid, but that was just the usual electioneering, both sides being equally guilty of that. London always thrives in relative terms, it's the rest of the country that tends to suffer most and need propping up with London earnings. But what has...

Should we be suprised by the Brexit victory?

No, what we don't and won't accept is a full departure from the EU with the immense damage that will do. And the reason we won't accept that is the tiny margin making that decision and the fact that so much of the leave vote was nothing more that the usual mid term protest vote against the...

Should we be suprised by the Brexit victory?

Nobody is pushing the idea, it just results from the fact that so many being interviewed who voted to leave are expressing second thoughts now it's actually happened. There's no doubt that many who were really exercising a protest vote against our governemnt are now alarmed at the outcome, many...

Should we be suprised by the Brexit victory?

No, there are many different possible relationships with the EU while not being a member. At one extreme there's the Norwegian one which is most close to matching our referendum's indecisive result. At the other extreme there's Vladimir Putin's Russia. .

Just long experience, just look at the number of politicians who select reverse gear when convenient. David Cameron and Boris Johnson most recently, and preceding them, Theresa May, Andrea Leadsom and Jeremy Corbyn have also changed their standing on the EU issue. .
