    L1e-A testing requirements

It was electric ones I was referring to of course. However, were those petrol ones all restricted to a maximum assist speed of 15 mph? Any that were faster weren't Low Powered Mopeds. .

Will the GTECH become Britain's best selling e-bike?

This illustrates how much more competition there is now. Despite the much smaller market then, back in 2006, the best selling high end model was the Ezee Torq, selling well over 600 in under 7 months to the end of December. Over its first 12 months from introduction 50cycles would have sold...

Are trikes allowed to be dIscussed.

Electric assist trikes are allowed in law and in this forum. Indeed, the government now encourage them more having removed all weight limits last year. .

    L1e-A testing requirements

As it's always been for years under the old name of "Low Powered Moped", with no-one ever making them. The only advantage I've ever seen is for a disabled person or limited ability rider, able to ride almost any road incline without pedalling thanks to the 1000 watts. .

    Leaving the EU

I agree this keeps happening, we've seen it with Johnson, Farage and Livingstone currrently. However, I only judge by what I hear and see the person saying, and Boris Johnson has waged a campaign of deliberate lying about many indisputable things regarding the EU. He clearly hopes that such...

    Dropped in to say Hi

That's perfectly normal then, I just got the impression from the photo they were longer. It's a subject that interests me since there's lots of expert discussion on the efficiencies or otherwise of differing crank arm lengths and cadences. A very few use crank arms only 100 mm long with high...

Neat adaptation Footie, hope tomorrow's trial goes well. P.S. Just noticed how long the crank arms appear on your bike, they look 180 mm or more? .

P.S I also work in another forum on a very different subject. In that one it's only necessary to click the "report" button on any out of line post for it to instantly disappear. If clicked unfairly the moderators can return the post, but the instant removal feature seems to prevent...

Pedelecs frum makes me feel sick

I'm sorry to see you post of your departure Dave, but I can well understand it, given the current combative posting trends and the atmosphere created. You will unquestionably be missed by very many, I just hope that the forum will improve over time and return to what it once was, enabling your...

    L1e-A testing requirements

But pedelecs can't legally have fully independent throttles enabling full assist speed, so not something to consider in respect of EPACs. Given the huge numbers of pedelecs in use in the EU and the fact they almost all have no brake cutouts, I can't see that there's an issue. If that had been...

Legal /illegal debate - proposal for a better forum

Perhaps not. He's got a six-pack, big boobs, defective eyesight and no hair. I've got a flat one-pack, no oversize boobs, great eyesight and a full head of hair. :p And I'm older than him. .

There is so many bike manufacturers out there how do I know which one to go for. please help

The four you mention are all good quality e-bikes. When choosing from a good selection like that, the best one for anyone is the one they most like in all respects after having a ride on each. Other people's advice is of limited value, since we are all different in so many ways. The best way...

Legal /illegal debate - proposal for a better forum

This isn't at all the position that used to exist long ago. While many members rode illegally fast e-bikes, mainly assisting to around 20/22 mph, mainstream posters like myself always made it very clear what the law was, as I still do. The difference to now exists in the last sentence I've...

Legal /illegal debate - proposal for a better forum

Theres always been this tendency, I think it's fundamental since there's so much more to post about once into the much wider scope of illegality. Sorry this comment has to include you Dave, but it seems worse now due to those complaining about it. Back in the early days of the forum when over...

A 30mph crash fatality in something not tested or safe..

Disappointingly for you, this isn't actually the case. You are exempt from motor vehicle type approval as L1e as in the extract shown below: 2. This Regulation does not apply to the following vehicles: (k) vehicles equipped with any seating position of the driver or rider having an R-point...

The specified reflectors have to be on a new bike to comply with standards. A bell doesn't have to be fitted but the dealer selling a bike should by law offer a bell. Users don't have to have either on their bikes. .

I'm afraid you've misunderstood the position Rob, Germany has exactly the same 25 kph pedelec law as us, it's EU wide. In addition they have an S class of 45 kph pedelec which is subject to various restrictions. They have to be registered and have a number plate, they have to be insured for...
