    Handlebars

I feel sure the straight handlebars can be a cause. I know how much I felt the change from the comfortable Lafree handlebars to the straight ones on the following two bikes. I still have one of those following bikes but changed its handlebars long ago. .

Difficulties getting an e-car, Part 2

Thanks Tillson. Dealers make no mention of one when discussing charge point costs and if there was I'm sure they'd use that as a selling point. I think what your colleague was probably speaking of was the free-to-charge points that are installed on streets and in various public car parks, and...

    Spare Inner Tube Advice

I normally repair the puncture but can change a tube without taking out a wheel or disturbing gear change mechanisms just by taking off the left wheel nut. I've even changed tyres this way, including a thick Marathon Plus. Left hand lifts the frame and right hand passes in the tube, though in...

Difficulties getting an e-car, Part 2

No Steve, those costs were for a normal single phase supply. The Leaf will charge at a 10 Amp rate from a 13 Amp socket in about 12 hours, assuming there's a little left in the battery at the start. That's ok for me since I'm not a daily driver and an overnight charge does. For those with...

Difficulties getting an e-car, Part 2

Some may remember me looking into buying a Nissan Leaf e-car some while ago and the conclusion that at £32,000 and a replacement batttery after about 4 to 5 years at £16,000, it simply wasn't worth trying, even without the other problems like short range etc. Even the government's £5,000 grant...

    A Christmas Story

Unbelievable! What is it about our MPs these days? They just seem able to walk into foolish trouble all the time. Perhaps it's little wonder that we have to struggle so hard to succeed as a country with such leadership. .

    Helmets @ Aldi

Me too, they are truly disgusting to me and I can't understand how anyone can like them. .

    Helmets @ Aldi

No, if a law is passed it will be EU soup, including produce from all member countries homogenised into a single composite flavour deemed right for all EU citizens. Cans will have to have the CE mark. Britain will probably add a provision for other tastes by requiring an unknown form of type...

    Handlebars

Those eZee bikes that John has posted about just above also have the advantage of very powerful motors which climb well. Among my own bikes are and have been eZee models. Another thing of interest is that 50cycles the Kalkhoff agents are have their end of season clearance sale. Some at 20%...

    Hub Gears

The 7 speed Shimano only has indirect gears so is overall less efficient than their 8 speed hubs which have one direct drive gear. A small difference but no rider wants their effort wasted. The 7 speed is also a little less robust. .

    Handlebars

Sorry, misunderstood. The Giant Lafree was discontinued in 2006 I'm afraid. The Kalkhoffs with similar handlebars that I linked you to above are today's nearest equivalents to the Lafree, but of course much dearer now. I don't know your budget limits, but the lowest starting point with...

    Helmets @ Aldi

It may seem surprising, but mention of helmets in thread titles doesn't normally bring this reaction, as these most recent ones show: http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/helmet.21974/ http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/helmet-selfie-are-you-a-dude-or-a.20319/...

This one is the closest, it's the same one that Alan Quay recommended. It's far cheaper on ebay, here's a working link for it. .

    CHAIN SUCK CURED BY FILING

Indeed. When I rebuilt and modded both my eZee bikes, I chose 13 to 34 for both and used larger chainrings. The 20" wheel one has a giant 60 tooth chainring to give equivalent ratios:

Which car brands are worst for close passing?

I wouldn't know how they behave since I always give way to them first. The way I look at it is that I'm serving myself, they're serving the whole community so should get priority. .

    Electric biking - the future?

I can't see much more from any existing technology Steve. Over the near 200 years of battery development progress has been incredibly slow, as witness our cars still using the ancient lead-acid since it's still the only dependable reasonable cost one over several years. The lithium advances...

    Handlebars

The handlebars on the Lafree e-bike below that I had originally were exceptionally good. A cycling friend and neighbour tried it out since he'd never tried an e-bike before. When he came back I expected some sort of comment about the electric assist aspect, but instead what he said was "What...

    Handlebars

Comfort bars are far better, the first three bikes on this webpage have them. Basically raised with handgrips angled back for a better wrist angle. And existing bars can be changed, there's a wide range of "different" handlbars on these pages. .
