Riding an electric cargo bike legally in the UK

I believe so since the King Meter controls are rider ones, at all times under the rider's control. Suppliers sometimes attempt to indemnify themselves against any possible third party insurance implications by refusing to tell customers how to alter the control settings. But that doesn't alter...

Riding an electric cargo bike legally in the UK

Not the same thing at all though. Bells are not required to be fitted, technically or otherwise, a dealer merely has to offer one to someone purchasing a bike face to face, but not to online or mail order customers. The assist speed limit law is mandatory, a pedelec while on the road must only...

Bike Cameras. The Negatives and Positives of using them

My feelings are so rarely seriously offended by other road users that it isn't a consideration, and I'm in a densely trafficked London borough. I see cameras as an overreaction to very occasional problems, which from the videos I've seen are too often provoked by a cyclist's unnecessary...

Bike Cameras. The Negatives and Positives of using them

My feelings towards video cameras are negative. No-one likes the feeling that they are being constantly watched so cameras have a considerable potential to annoy. There's also a very big difference between cameras that are for the civil good and under the control of a responsible authority, and...

    It has started already.

No, not the Alfine 8 as yet, but in fact the Alfine name is a system one. The hub gear in the system is apparently the latest upgrade of the Nexus hub, so even the newer Nexus hubs should be better as well. There were two earlier Nexus versions, the first failed very quickly on unpowered bikes...

    Question about E-Bikes

That's the old legislation Dobby. Following an amendment that came into force on 6th April this year, all the e-bike weight limits are removed and the assist speed limit is 15.6 mph (matching the EU's 25 kph). Having a throttle will mean the bike must be type approved for use anywhere that...

Confirmed, I just cut off the end of the rubber grip to fit mirrors on throttle bikes. .

Riding an electric cargo bike legally in the UK

I guessed you meant a large caravan but thought my observation worthwhile for those who might not know whether a bike could tow a small one. .

Riding an electric cargo bike legally in the UK

The 1968 Vienna Convention rules on road traffic include a specific mention that bicycle bells must be fitted in accordance with each visited countries ruling. So being without here is ok, but cross the channel with a bike and one can be in trouble. .

Riding an electric cargo bike legally in the UK

Actually bike caravans are entirely legal in many countries including the UK, a dozen shown on the link below and many more online. At one time Wisper e-bikes considered adding a bicycle caravan to their e-bike range. Bicycle caravans .

    It has started already.

I'm also a hub gear fan, but the advent of powerful crank drives has given most of them problems of shorter life too. Only the Rohloff seems able to measure up to the demands, but at a price that limits it to high end bikes. There's many e-bikes that cost less than just the Rohloff hub gear. .

Riding an electric cargo bike legally in the UK

The bells law is a mess so it's little wonder there are no prosecutions. In 1983 the government of the day removed the requirement to have bells fitted. Then in 1999 the measure was due to be introduced while being strongly opposed by most manufacturers, dealers and cycling organisations...

Electric bikes in the rain query

I don't know if your Reptila has the Yamaha or Bosch power unit, but both are good from a waterproofing point of view, the Yamaha especially so. However it's best with any bike parked for long periods in the open to avoid soaking, so a bike cover is a good investment. There are many of them on...

Also use as normal bike, long range

From those you list: AVE bikes are fine, but the company may have an uncertain future. Having filed for bankruptcy they were due to be rescued, but there still seem to be some question marks about that. Powacycle have given very patchy support over time, more often bad than acceptable. Most...

    Kalkhoff Impulse - stretched chain

The chain adjustment is by sliding the rear wheel back in the frame slots. After doing that and if you have rim brakes (I think you have), check the brake blocks are aligned with the rim sides correctly and adjust if necessary. If the hub gear spindle is well back in the frame slot and almost...

    Hallo owner of emotion bike

Thanks for looking Sikajeth. Now you've told me it the Neo City model, that tells me it has the Japanese Dapu 350 watt motor. Other than the battery, the only suggestion I have is a sub-standard connection in the current feed to the motor, since that can cause supply failure under high load...
