This is where throttle control is an advantage. Power continuing during gear changes means the changes can be slower without excessive loss of speed. .

Technically not a bike but !

Unfortunately not, it hasn't got pedals so not a legal e-trike, and can't be registered as a motor vehicle. The law needs amending so that the hand drive wheelchair rims are considered equal to pedals, so making them potentially e-trikes. It could be considered a mobility vehicle if restricted...

Can landowners restrict usage of public rights of way

Of course there has to be damage for this charge to be levelled. Unfortunately this is one of the more modern laws that I hate due to the catch-all nature. Since it's so easy to use, some police officers are inclined to use it for even the slightest hint of damage and magistrates do convict...

Can landowners restrict usage of public rights of way

Yes, I did mean in the civil sense, but as you say, still potentially trespass. Indeed, that's why i posted in this way: - - - - permits the landowner to legally tell you that you must not use it for cycling - - - - - - - - - - - Should you then persist in that cycling, they can take you to...

    Replacement Chain

But until this summer Tillson's bike had the lower powered 2008 Panasonic crank motor. It's today's much more powerful crank motors which have brought the problem of excessive wear, first coming to common notice with the Bosch unit where Bosch reduced the power a little and have since also...

Can landowners restrict usage of public rights of way

They aren't really different answers, it's just that amigafan's post has two omissions, that a police officer can also take action against trespass as well as a landowner although that is rare, and the existence of the law on criminal trespass which is more easily actionable and which the police...

    Replacement Chain

Dead right d8veh, chains and sprockets are little problem on hub motor bikes and the more powerful the hub motor, the longer they tend to last of course. The experienced Dutch have largely killed off crank drives in their market and I think that will spread once the crank drive chain wear...

    Replacement Chain

Sadly the widespread adoption of derailleur gears killed the oilbath chaincase, and the similarly timed adoption of alloy frames assisted in that loss. A chain and sprockets in a fully enclosed oilbath chaincase where the chain at the foot of the chainwheel is dipping into oil runs indefinitely...

    Replacement Chain

I think any sprocket under 13 teeth is problematic where wear is concerned Mike. Having said that, wear is a partnership issue between chain and sprocket, and a tougher chain can delay it. See my post in another thread about the tougher X chain in place of your recommended Z chain. .

Can landowners restrict usage of public rights of way

That phrase is included to make the reference specific to one law only, the national law which entitles a police officer to take you to court for the offence of cycling on the footway (pavement). There are other laws applicable, some with various restrictions on how they can be implemented...

Technically not a bike but !

Team Hybrid, e-bike motor suppliers, have made this sort of attachment for years. I think it's either the proprietor or someone in their company who uses one, since I saw it both in use and detached at an e-bike show back in 2007. Here's their motorised handcycles web page And their e-bikes...

By measurement as awol has posted is the usual way, though there are various recommendations on how to measure. Many just wait for failure or faulty running and replace chains and sprockets together as sets. .

Can landowners restrict usage of public rights of way

Who says you can't be prosecuted for the offence of riding on a footpath? I haven't said that, I've only said it's unlikely to happen. It's best to start by ignoring that site which I've shown is unreliable since they begin by not knowing the difference between a footway (aka pavement) and a...

As I posted, that only refers to one specific law, that of pavement cycling. Read again and you'll see that it says "the offence, and later "this offence. It nowhere says "an offence" since it refers to one specific court case and that law alone being tried. Later it doesn't say, "you didn't...

Can landowners restrict usage of public rights of way

I'll add two more things to the above to cover all bases. First, there is a waiver for cyclists to ride on the footway (aka pavement but not footpath) when they are genuinely in fear of traffic, so long as they are riding responsibly, i.e. at a moderate speed and not frightening pedestrians...

Can landowners restrict usage of public rights of way

I can't see it does say the opposite, it's just incomplete, concentrating only on one aspect of the law which applies primarily to footways, which they wrongly refer to as footpaths. It avoids mention of public footpaths, on which cycling is generally not permitted. It does acknowledge that...

Can landowners restrict usage of public rights of way

Since the club acknowledge it's a bridleway, they cannot stop you from cycling Phill. In fact legally you have the right to make golfers wait while you cycle through. The 1968 Bridleways Act specifies only one instance where a cyclist has to give way, and that is to horse riders who have...

Wet weather gear for long(ish) commute

The difference is that capes are so easy to put on and off, it's no more than a lean forward to flip one off, which sheds the raindrops from it in the same action. Nothing else compares with that ease. I remember a few years back a paperboy delivering to multiple hallways of flats flipping his...
