Man imprisoned for two years for not declaring ebay income

I bet that made a few sit up! In his case he had made a considerable amount of money of course to get that sentence. However, it raises an important point for anyone who buys to sell, wishing to make a profit, since that make them a trader. Contrary to what some believe, the declaration of...

What do you carry in your repair kit?

Mmmmmm, whittling a new tube wouldn't be practical, so I guess that leaves you three options with the knife. Give it to a motorist in exchange for a lift, hold up the motorist and force them to give you a lift, or suicide! .

Bear with me, still new here

This is an exact parallel with this cycling history. My brother was always a club "sport" cyclist and mainly went out riding on fine weather Sundays. At most I reckon he covered around 1000 miles a year, often much less. His car mileage was very much greater. I've always been a utility...

    Bosch bearings

The doesn't necessarily apply when the bottom bracket is a part of an integrated motor unit though, the BB then is often a complex multi part assembly since the chainwheels and cranks have to operate independently on such units. These are not constrained by standard frame shell sizes so there's...

The missing step in the evolution of the bicycle

I don't think belts were ever actually used on safety bicycles or tricycles. Even Starley's Coventry tricycle which predated 1870 used a chain from about then. Previous machines usually used rod and crank drives, sometimes with treadles or rocking arm pedals, or ratchet and pinion systems...

    Cycling in London (again)....

We do have a meeting of minds after all. I couldn't agree more fully with both these statements, and add that the planet would have been far better off without us in the first place. Our difference appears to be that I think we will cope with the future much better than you do. Clearly that...

    Cycling in London (again)....

I remain far more optimistic that that John, we don't need to control the world and shouldn't try. We just need to be smart enough to cope with each eventuality as it arises, something we've done very successfully for around a million years and continue to do with each new problem that hits us...

    Cycling in London (again)....

I did in fact type a longer answer including this aspect, but the internet connection momentarily dropping out meant I lost the latter part of my reply since it wasn't saved. I couldn't face typing it again! However, I did stress in what is posted above that part of the answer was in...

Should EBikes be allowed on MTB trails?

Forestry Commission yes, National Truss I'm not too sure, sounds low down to me. :) The National Trust land is publically owned though. ;) .

Trex has largely answered the ammonia questions for me. I'll add though that there is no shortage of atmospheric nitrogen and many methods of fixation. The Dutch used coal to provide the necessary hydrocarbon and the reserves of coal are unimaginably large. The energy content of ammonia at...

Congratulations on your new forthcoming e-bike. Your decision to wait before buying a second e-bike is a very sensible one, there's nothing better than experience for refining a choice. .

    A New Kalkhoff for £1095

Depends on how hilly your area is and your weight and fitness Mrke, since it's front hub motor will not have the ultimate hill climbing performance of their crank drive systems. In the same vein, the Shimano 7 speed gear hub is not up to the standard of their 8 speed ones, so it's in those two...

Should EBikes be allowed on MTB trails?

In sporting events no, potentially unfair competition. For leisure riding, so long as it's a road legal e-bike I see no reason why not since legally it's just a bicycle. Such a ban on legal e-bikes on any publically owned land would be easily challenged as having no possible legal basis. .
