    Assistance

There's no such thing yet as a silent enough but still useful in-frame motor, and checks have found nothing when such accusations have been made. Given how low powered the motor would have to be for sufficient silence to get away with it, and the restricted amount of battery capacity that could...

    EBAY JUMPING JACK PRICES

Sorry Mountainsport, I've no idea on the meanings of the 18650 suffix codings on Panasonic's production. .

    Cycling in London (again)....

The difference is that I post on the basis of today's reality rather than optimistically wanting something else. I would love prospects to be different, but they aren't. I could answer every point you've made adequately but I know that our different starting viewpoints are too different to be...

    Cycling in London (again)....

Definitely more could be done Neptune, though all too often it leads to more piecemeal additions coming to abrupt halts that anger cyclists even more than nothing at all. The trouble is that we just don't have anything like enough cyclists, and the authorities know that no matter what they...

    Presta valves

Sorry about the late reply Mike. The Schrader valves fit ok but I don't know if your rims need the long valve type. If your rims are double wall deep ones it's best to get them.. What Kalkhoff model have you got? .

    Liability....

Almost certainly true, but in covering the flaws the possibility had to be mentioned. .

    Cycling in London (again)....

Indeed, but this puts our UK drivers in an even better light. The average Dutch situation of 650 road deaths, higher pro rata than ours and some 200 of them cyclists means 31% of the deaths are cyclists, despite their wonderful facilities. That doesn't support their drivers being as careful as...

    Cycling in London (again)....

Of course, and I wouldn't attempt to hide that. But as shown, The Netherlands falls short of us overall in road deaths on a pro rata basis, putting talk of their careful drivers into perspective. Clearly our drivers are even better, since they hardly ever have the benefit of cyclists being...

    Liability....

I'm sure nothing will be done to improve on the current legal situation before implemention of a harmonised law on pedelecs that approves 250 watts, since the DfT are satisfied that the waiver is sufficient until then. Effectively that is true of course, since our police forces cannot now...

I disagree. What is very different is first, when they acted, before the motor vehicle had taken over so completely. Second the width of their city roads, continental fashion and commonly much wider than ours, leaving much room for change. Their narrow streets have often not changed at all, I...

    Cycling in London (again)....

Thanks for the video jhruk, it does indeed cover that history well. One thing I omitted from my post above is a vital factor in why the Dutch took to cycling on the new infrastructure so readily, their very flat land making for leisurely, sweat free cycling. Those wonderful separated cycleways...

    Liability....

The main purpose of the waiver was to make the current position on the roads tenable following the disputed attempt at a prosecution, the DfT itself saying that they had to accept the reality. It wasn't in any way to cover the trade since they had no legal liability, they were doing nothing...

    Cycling in London (again)....

Some while ago I read a short history of cycling in The Netherlands post World War 2, and it seems they were following the same path as us at one point. Just as we did in the 1960s and '70s, they were switching to all car driving at a rapid rate and cycling was in sharp decline. The crucial...

    E-Bike Ready Tyres?

Thanks Rob, that's a first then. The previous ones were only on legal UK pedelecs. Mind you, I did used to exceed 50 kph (31mph) downhill on my Maxxis "electric" tyred Lafree, and they never blew up! .

    E-Bike Ready Tyres?

This is one of life's mysteries. More than a decade ago Chinese tyre company Maxxis supplied tyres for the Giant Lafree with "For electric bike" branded on the walls. They were very free rolling but punctured on first sight of something sharp. Recently Chinese company Kenda started supplying...

Any Interesting News from Eurobike 2014

Thanks Martin, very interesting collection there. I noticed Haibike as well Flyer shielding the front of the Bosh unit now, experience of the mud getting in problem perhaps? .

    Presta valves

Are you sure they are Presta Mike, here's the usual three: Kalkhoff often use the Woods/Dunlop valves, popular on the continent but I think awful. We in the UK gave them up many years ago. You can get an adapter to suit the Woods/Dunlop valve or as I've done in the past, change the tubes. .

    Bosch bearings

At least they have the probability of service and available spares. With Panasonic units once out of the two year warranty, no spares, failure means a new unit at circa £500, plus fitting. .
