By their very nature (in these days of hype and spin) any prime minister will not serve the best interest of the majority of people. They will only have got to that position through devious means and self promotion. To a large extent Governments are bought and paid for, or as they say "the Government always wins the election".

A pessimistic view I agree, but IMHO true. I would love to be proved wrong.

After years of struggling to change the world (a youthful dream) I now realise the best we can do is to love and care for those closest to us and try as we can for those we come into daily contact with.

Many people who want to change the world often end up neglecting those nearest and dearest to them.

To a degree we are all selfish and self seeking anyway.

I need another bike :p

With all his faults (Boris) and also Red Ken, I am afraid that no town or country will ever get a good politician to choose from.
Please, not that again, why "Red" Ken? He's never been a communist having spent most of his adult life in the Labour party. The "Red" epithet was applied by the more rabid right wing press to try to get conservatives elected instead and many were fool enough to believe it, having read it in the newspapers.

Although what you say about politicians is generally true, Ken Livingstone has been the straightest politician that London has ever had in my lifetime. A Londoner and a very ordinary man, he lives a very ordinary life that we would all recognise and has worked tirelessly for ordinary people. There has never been a shred of evidence to the contrary, just unfounded smears from the right wing who are unable to measure up to his standards.

Yes, we as a species are flawed, and that will never be rectified, but its the regulations that they operate under that allows such self serving polticians to get away with, what can only be described legalised corruption, so it the regulation that needs to be changed, and all those loopholes that are deliberately left open, closed, and maybe these politician will have to turn their words into action. Ok i am starting to fade into my fantasy world again...need to take another pill.

Yes, we as a species are flawed..
For me I do not find that the case. We are what we are and for me that journey and acceptance has been a long and tortuous one. I am no longer a religious hence I dislike the idea of people being told they are flawed or sinful (I know you probably did not mean that).

Although as I said I am no longer religious/a christian, I still like the concept of Grace in that I realise that my life could have gone so many ways yet I am ever thank full (to whom I have no idea) that my quality of life and peace of mind is very good at the moment :)

I appreciate it could change at a moments notice though.
