First it was the electric car and then it was the electric van and now a North East car retailer has come up with an even more environmentally friendly and healthy option ….. an ‘electric’ powered cycle!

The Storck Raddar Multitask is now being offered as a ‘healthy option’ to motorists visiting two of Benfield’s City-Centre dealerships...as an alternative to taking a courtesy car.

Customers at Benfield Nissan on Portland Road and Benfield Renault on Benfield Road, Newcastle can now opt to take a ‘courtesy cycle’ whilst their vehicle receives a health check or service at the dealership.

You can read the full press release and find out more at Storck Raddar - Storck Raddar Electric Bikes - News - Courtesy car with a healthy difference

I'd rather have a car. I need a replacement car to carry out car related tasks whilst mine is away being serviced.

I suppose that a dealer offering to lend you a bicycle instead of car helps his, "margin" a bit. That is probably what this is all about. No doubt it will be wrapped up in load of green nonesense.

I'd take a courtesy cycle if say I was dropping my car off for an MOT or tyres on my way to work.

I would have loved to have had this option last month when I took my car for a service at the Hodgson Toyota Dealership which is all of 400 metres from Storck Raddar at the MetroCentre - so, Trevor, if you could persuade the Hodgson Group to join in as well as Benfield I would be most grateful.

And if Benfield add the Skoda Dealership on Scotswood Road to the two already providing this service I may even stoop to getting my Octavia Scout serviced there.

Hi Willin,

Not sure about Hodgson, However next time you take your Toyota in for a service then let us know and we'll organise a loan/demo from our showroom for you :)

also, Im sure that if you give the chaps at Skoda Scotswood enough notice they would be more than happy to run a bike over from one of the other dealerships.

It's an enterprising initiative. It probably wont be used much, but in fine weather it will have fun and novelty appeal for some and be a good publicity grabber for the dealer and Storck-Raddar. Definitely feature and photo fodder for the local newspaper, and maybe a national one.

I have nothing but praise for this idea, sure, a lot of people may not take up the offer, but will be a talking point that will generate further interest in Electric bikes.

Thanks Smudger. When Benfield customers are sent a service reminder in the post they will be introduced to the ebike concept as part of their courtesy vehicle options. :)
