Cycling on hold for the moment.

There won't be much cycling here on the South London/North Surrey border in the morning, quite deep snow and two Range Rovers have failed to make it up my 1 in 7 hill.

Seems from the forecasters there's a wide band of this from North Kent crossing right across Surrey.

Any in your area?

Not on the coast in Dorset so far - we very rarely get more than a few flakes. The snow always seems to stop at about Bridport. I haven't seen proper snow here since I was about 10 years old. Should be interesting if we get some.

My brother lives in Dorset and the forecast for there is only for a possibility of a few flakes tomorrow.

It seems to be localised in some eastern areas, but lots of it where it hits.

We already have a fair covering of snow out there and it's due to get much heavier, tomorrow I'll be writing a review of Schwalbe snow & ice tyres.
If I make it home that is as I'm due to leave work in the middle of the heavy evening snow shower.

Wondered what it was like in London Eddie. One of my neighbours set off to drive to Norbury to return a couple of visitors a short while ago, hope they make it ok since there's some nasty hills at this end of the trip.

If it gets too bad during the day at least I can throw the bike on a train to get home so I won't get too stuck, unless the train is knackered then I'll have to persevere with the bike and stick to built up areas. This should be easier than when I got stuck in the snow on my motorbike.

Astonishingly, we actually have snow this morning. Only a centimetre or two so far, but it's still coming down - big fat flakes too. Should make the morning ride into work interesting ... visibility is poor and there will be quite a few drivers down here that have never driven in these conditions. To be fair, I haven't cycled in these conditions - although I have ridden a motorcycle in snow.

It was nice knowing you all ..... ;)

You should see what happens in London - you'd think no-one had EVER seen snow in their lives.....

I was looking forward to cycling today ~ safer than the car as I could keep on the cycle tracks, but I cannot find my key !!!!

Given how rare it is to see snow down here on the coast, that's quite possibly true of some of the younger drivers ...

My other half delivers LPG in a mini-bulker all over the south - one of his workmates has already turned his tanker around and come home. Apparently the Bridport snow divide is still very much in evidence .....

I hope my dearest has the good sense to do the same if he gets to a bad area!

Is it snowing in North Dorset?

Normally I would be able to tell you. I can see a fair chunk of North Dorset from where I live but at the moment the view is obscured by a complete whiteout.

Did you emigrate Tony. I'm sure thats the high street in St Petersburg :D
That's a thought Paul, I've got one of those Russian style fur hats, so I could set the scene out there. :D

They're saying worst since 1991, but this area is very badly hit and it's the worst in my 41 years here. It's also the only time the whole of London's bus network has shut down, that didn't even happen in the snows of 1962.

You can see the depth from the crown on the flat top lamp post here, and that's a main road and bus route crossing at the foot of the hill, though you'd never guess it:

Well done Mussels on getting into work in this! (Just seen your bike...) That's quite a trek in these conditions! (Mind you apart from the road surface, I used to find that in Manchester [10 years ago] it was easier cycling when it snowed. The car drivers drove a lot more carefully, making the journey much easier)
