You should see what happens in London - you'd think no-one had EVER seen snow in their lives.....

Rog.
Bunch of girls they all are, no trains, no buses, no ferry and half a tube service. I was suprised it only took me an extra 15 minutes to get in. :p It was quite funny looking at people looking bemused and taking photos of each other as if they had landed on Mars.
Started off very interesting as most roads aren't busy enough to have turned the snow to slush yet so I had a lot of slippy slidy moments with both tyres taking sideways directions together at times. But even with these countless hairy moments I didn't fall off once, must be something good about those tyres!
I found that powder had loads of grip but was heavy going, hard compacted ice was OK, slush was OK but ice under snow or slush gave me loads of hassle.
Going home may be fun, if the trains are still broken I may need to leave a little early as I don't fancy riding home in a blizzard after dark.

Now then, don't speak too soon, it had hardly reached you last night! If you get the same you won't have anything much working afterwards.

There was about as much snow as in your 1st picture, you're only about 12 miles away from me so probably not much difference. There's nothing working now except a handful of cars and my bike. :)

It seems very variable. I was surprised to see the A2 at the London end on TV with only 2" of snow, but now (11 am) measuring an even 8" here, which is not that far away.

Nothing at all moving here, as much as anything because it's all steep hills in the area so it's not worth trying when the 4 x 4s aren't making the hill outside.

Im sitting in the office on my tod.May as well of not bothered getting here, the phone hasnt rung once.Only a couple of miles from home in the Range Rover but it slipped a bit in some places. We're a few miles from Farnborough which has seen the worst locally. All schools are shut, and the missus and the kids are sledging down The Ridges at Finchampstead.Snow has started to fall heavily again now so I dont think I'll hang around for much longer.

Well, I survived the trip to work - which took over twice as long as usual. There were queues of traffic everywhere. Some of the roads have been gritted sparingly, but there's an awful lot of ice about. At one point I had to stop in the cycle lane because all the cars were blocking it and then couldn't get moving again because the rear tyre was slipping so much. At least I didn't fall off!

I'd have the sledges but there's too much snow to drive my kids somewhere to use them. I would take them sledging down my road but i fear the wife would have a fit. :D

We've got plenty of grassy slopes but none of the kids have sledges, not used to much snow round here.

How's this for spoilsports, Camden Council have closed their parks on health and safety grounds since there's snow in them. Stark raving bonkers, denying kids the age old right to play with snow.

Probably so the kids sliding on dustbin sacks won't impale themselves on discarded needles and broken glass.
I can see it making sense though, my favourite slope as a kid had a river at the bottom of it and I came very close a couple of times. :D
My kids are a bit small to go sledging but when the roads are open I may make a sledge and tow them round the park behind my Wisper.

I'm looking out of the window at the moment and there is a huge area of untouched snow out there - not a youngster in sight!

When my kids were little they would have been out with all the neighbours kids having fun making snowmen and I would have been out there with them.

How things have changed in twenty years.

Pleased to say there's no problem here, a neighbour's two lads recruited several more of their friends from nearby to take advantage of the large slope between our properties. A huge snowman, snowball fights and sliding down the slope on heavy duty polythene sacks have kept them occupied all day.

Two younger lads on the other side of the road have been making good use of the snow on the unused road likewise, so still much like the old days.

In a cafe at lunchtime; and on the ubiquitous background radio, the announcer told of which local schools had sent pupils home due to no heating because the SCHOOL BOILER HAD BROKEN DOWN. The presenter of the radio show then asked a brilliant question:
"Why is it, whenever there is a severe cold snap or severe snow, school boilers are the very first thing to breakdown?"

Hee hee! Couldn't agree more - that's all I've ever heard my entire life. Forewarned is forearmed - so remember, if ever you are offered an ex-school boiler going cheap on eBay - ignore it - you know they only work satisfactorily in the summer time.
:)

STEVE WRIGHT IN THE AFTERNOON (BBC RADIO 2)

Wright: Johnny Weissmuller died on this day. Which jungle-swinging character clad only in a loin cloth did he play?

Contestant: Jesus.

Every school caretakers dearest wish is the school empty of kids, so any excuse will do, one might say. :D
