daahub kit status?

I made enquiries yesterday to a local dealer. He called me back later with the information, from Wisper he said, that release was now to be in "June or July".

Now, I've been waiting and waiting for this kit to be released however I'll now be purchasing an alternative, probably the Alien Ocean 36V kit.

Sadly, it appears Wisper's marketing has been way ahead of the game in terms of development and testing of this kit.

Here comes DaaHub!

Hi Tex, thanks for the question.

I agree Vectra, we had originally wanted to launch DaaHub in the spring of 2010. We based our time line on building a new bike, however as we have discovered making an entirely new kit is not that easy!

The issues we have experienced have been mainly around the battery case. We test our bikes on quite extreme tracks in New Zealand and have put DaaHub through the same gruelling off road conditions. Due to the harsh nature of these tests we we experienced some problems with the fixings between the case cover and base. I am delighted to report that after several re-designs and tweaks we have overcome all the obstacles and are now in a position to go into production and we are expecting the first DaaHub kits to arrive in the UK by the summer. We believe due to the testing procedure and subsequent changes, DaaHub will be one of the toughest and lightest kits available.

Please accept my apologies for the late arrival of DaaHub, however I am sure you will agree that it is far better to launch a perfect product than one that will not live up to our customers expectations.

Certainly Streethawk, the DaaBag has now been finalised, it is smilar to the Camelback product with bladder etc. It has a special re enforced battery compartment at the base of the bag and a quick release cable that connects directly to the dock.

That sounds excellent. Would the controller also be in DaaBag? Because i could see an application for a mountain bike where i could swap from normal human power to electric just by swapping the wheel and putting on a backpack!

The wiring to the hub could be secured with velcro, and the lack of a battery pack anywhere on the bike means handling shouldnt be too severly compromised.

Ahh now that would be giving too much away, a the recent Wisper conference I was bashed over the head for telling you guys on Pedelecs what was happening before I told our dealers!

All I can say is the DaaHub EXTREEM is on the way for 2012, DaaHub Extreem is solely for use off road and is very much aimed at mountain bikers!

I use an ezee hub kit fitted to my mountain bike, I haven't weighed it but I believe it's 3.5kg. I think the power is a bit over 250w nominal and generally agreed to more than the normal hubs.
With my home-made battery pack (5Ah weighing 1.5kg) I have a range of 10 miles of off-roading to work which is pefect for me but I weighed my whole bike and it was 20kg. I can buy a newer bike saving 3kg but at significant cost and then another kg or 2 with your Daahub would be splendid.

Ok its not carried on your back but simlar principal of power in a bag with an umbilical cable stored or running from the bike to the bag

Hi Peter it sounds great!

Our kit with all the bits, weighs in at a smidgen over 5.5kg but that is with the 36V 9Ah (351Wh) battery included.

If it is sold as an off-road kit for off-road use then this is not a problem. Very similar to motorcross bikes, some are suitable for on road and others have to be trailered to a track as they are only suitable for off road use.
