Gsm vs bbs01

Hi all,

Does anyone have any insight into gsm kit woosh will be selling next month

In particular how it compares to the bbs equivalent (36v 250w)

It is a whole lot cheaper at 250 vs 330...... Why ?

Installation is near identical.
I rode the GSM test bike last spring, at that time, the inbuilt controller wasn't ready so my experience is limited to trying out the GSM with the bmsbattery 48V 18A controller and the Woosh Sirocco Lishui controller. Both perform well as you can expect for a crank drive.
The LCD 3 that comes with the bmsbattery kit has a built in Watt display that showed 800W max power draw. The bike went up pier hill in Southend on throttle with me pedalling backward and I could hit about 26mph pedalling down the seafront.

The motor on its own without the built-in controller costs £175, the bmsbattery 48V kit will cost you $281

Woosh now sell the GSM 18A kit with 36V 15AH bluetooth battery for £549. I guess that the pulling power is similar to the BBS01 18A 350W but GSM motor is labelled 250W instead of 350W.

The BBS01 can be programmed via programming cable, the GSM can't do that but the AT 800S LCD that comes with the GSM 18A has a myriad of options

Thanks trex, I already have a good 36v 09 battery ( not Bluetooth though)

So it seems like the gsm 36v 18a from woosh is a good deal at 250 quid. Likey less torque than the 48v version you rode I guess ?

I also found something online that says the gsm is single reduction but the bbs is dual

But didn't explain what that meant in practise? Do you know what this means at all ?

the GSM has double stage reduction, same system as BBS01/02.
You can see the middle nylon helical shaft in the picture.
The TCM on the woosh Krieger/Santana CD has a single stage. Double stage reduction allows bigger motor shaft. The motor shaft of the TCM is about 20% smaller (in diameter) than the GSM's and BBS01's. Bigger shaft means less torsional stress, more durable.

yes, riding the 48V 18A bmsbattery + GSM motor is similar to riding the BBS02 18A 500W. It feels more torquey and faster than the BBS01 36V 18A that I also tested.

I sold 150 quid worth of stuff on Gumtree in one day (not ebike gear)!

So I emailed woosh and reserved one :)

So, just for certainty, you over volted the 36v motor using a 48v controller and battery ?

Good to know though I would not dare overvolt that internal controller. It looks like it would blow very quick

The GSM motor without controller has two leads. First lead is a 9-pin motor connector that plugs straight into the 9-pin lead from the bmsbattery's 48V controller. Second lead is from the motor's pedelec sensor. This is a 3-pin male plug, on the bmsbattery controller's side, you will find a 4-pin female socket. You will need to cut the 4-pin male plug from the bmsbattery's pedelec sensor and solder it to the GSM pedelec lead. I can confirm anotherkiwi's point: the Bmsbattery cannot display the bike's speed, so its max speed setting does not work. Otherwise, the GSM motor works fine with a 48V kit.
The GSM 18A (with internal controller) has external speed sensor.

using the same battery on two bikes? Nealh does just that. He's got two mounting rails for his 09 battery.
You can use the GSM 18A kit with any 36V battery.
Iif you get the 08 battery from bmsbattery, just ask them for a second mounting rail when ordering.

Sorry I was meaning to say same battery/contoller combo on two bikes. I have a cunning plan. So on one bike it would need to use the internal speed sensor and on the other an external one. Just a question of splicing a connector for the external speed sensor into the internal speed sensor wiring if I got d8veh's post right.

MAybe a question for woosh but do you recall if the gsm has a similar profile to bbs ? I'm wondering if it has more, less or same chance of hitting the trail on the bottom. I've gone for a 29er conversion to mitigate this issue a little
