It has been here since tuesday, so a lot of you is going to loose the bet

The lock is flimsy on purpose. And the bike is not electric yet.

I'm planning to leave it out 1 month before putting all the electric parts in the bike.

No point to throw money away if it's going to be stolen/damaged

Still alive, no problems:

I'm thinking to add the new 2 speed motors on it soon. Maybe get the disc model at 145mm and spread a bit the dropout?


ps: it's located in central london. (zone 1)

Putting a motor on it will increase "nickability" by a large factor, as is, it is just a close to zero value bike.

I thought at the outset that it would last intact, guessing that it was in Central London from your previous posts. In a quieter spot in the suburbs it wouldn't survive for long before someone whose tyres had worn out or split wanted the wheels.

With an unobtrusive hub motor, especially if a rear one, it would possibly still be ok if the battery wasn't left on it, but if left complete with battery it would likely get taken soon.

A colleague of mine used to commute daily to MOD London from Arlelsey station. He used to get there from his house at RAF Henlow on an old rusty "ladies" bike, and then lock it up with an expensive lock since it would be unattended for at least 12 hours. He came back one day to find his bike still there - but the lock gone!

I'm surprised no one touched it. I've got almost every spares nicked (light, speedometer, seat, reparation kit...) but somehow, no one wants to touch this bike lol

It may be the obviousness of it's placing and it's cheap status that's doing the trick. There's been quite a lot of publicity about the "sting" operations the police are carrying out to catch bike thieves, leaving a bike to be easily stolen while they keep an eye on it either directly or via cctv. They then pounce on anyone taking the sting bike.

The crooks will be aware and maybe see your placing as possibly one of these.

That's a brilliant idea. Wedge a fag packet or something on your bike when you park it with roughly written "sting" or "thief trap" on it as if you're warning them. That should keep them off.
