If people are going to use e bikes or e motorcycles that look like the ones in previous pictures or you load a bicycle up with huge motors and batteries then the Police and other agencies are going to stop you and seize the bikes.

However I am finding it’s a bit like solar every one wants just that little bit more than they can currently get.

I think most of us want to just push things or to use a metaphor “ Sail very close to the sun “ and hope we don’t get burned!!

I am curious when one of these bikes will be imported and legal on the road....

And here the UK version....:

History repeats the Japanese used cycle’s with great effect to move against the British in the far east during WW2.

If a battalion of infantry had big powerful silent e bikes with air cover they can change the dynamic of a battle and not break down if they ran out of fuel!!!

"Forces across the UK confiscated 937 e-bikes in the year to Aug 11, according to Freedom of Information figures obtained by the PA news agency. In 2023, there were just 511 e-bikes seized. "
"The Bike Association said that there are around 550,000 e-bikes in the UK, while CoMoUK — the national organisation for shared transport — estimates that 750,000 privately-owned e-scooters are in use. "

Maybe they should send seized e bikes to Ukraine to help in place of crushing
The Ukranians are getting crushed enough by the Russians. The last thing they need is to get squished by a pile of ebikes, especially as the batteries are likely to catch fire and burn them - probably cheaper than phosphor bombs, though.

NATO really needs to stand now with Ukraine or I think this will go down in history like when Britain, France and the rest gave Hitler Chezchoslavakia and leas to WW2

Putin telling the rest of the world no troops in Ukraine whilst he sends in North Koreans they must be laughing at the weakness of NATO no wonder he will not make peace it’s not in his interest.

Not really talking about e bikes on the battlefield but you could move a lot of soldiers quickly and cheaply with them .

If my car was on the road and untaxed etc. The police would not give it back until I proved it was taxed. Do e-bikes not adhere to this.

In reality most of the untaxed cars are parked somewhere without a driver in it... they get clamped and if there is no reaction later on towed away...

For the most part illegal bikes are at free will to roam around the town where I live, esp the fast food riders , I often have to pass the plod shop going in to town for banking or shopping and now and then I see twist and go bikes zooming past the plod shop . The twist and goes I see are by no means slow bikes and are easy 20mph+ with no pedal action.

So this morning I went to get my bike out of the shed and the back tyre was completely flat.

So shoved a new tube in there just to be on the safe side.

Still, it gave me an opportunity to file just a little bit more from the drop-outs to get an even snugger fit for the axle.

So anyway then I got my bike up on my DIY bike stand and thought I'd try one of these police back-wheel-off-the-ground-speed-tests.

So when I'm pedalling slowly, sure enough the max speed was 15/16MPH, but If I pedal fast it would go over 30MPH.

The thing is, if you get stopped and they decide to do this type of test, how do you convince them to pedal slowly?

Put a finger on the rim when you do it to create a little bit of friction. You can practice holding the bike up in a position where you can reach the rim with one finger, so it just comes naturally when you do it in front of the police. Also, do it in bottom gear to get least help from the pedals.

Is it exceeding 16 miles an hour because of your hand cranking effort? You say it exceeds if you pedal it fast.

To see what the motor is providing, just crank it enough to make the motor work. It is quite easy to hand crank a bike on a stand to 30 miles an hour in top gear with no load on the wheel.

Yeah, I really needed a second person to do the filming. I was turning the crank by hand. So, on max assist just turning the pedals at a medium pace activates the PAS to the legal limit but if I turn the crank fast, it is obviously making the rear wheel go very fast. The thing is are the police aware of all this or would they just go for it to see how high a speedo reading they can get?

I do not believe rozzers are doing this stupid test.

Can you set magnet number = 2? Did that to my BBS01B and it's now happily showing half speed on this dumb and fictitious no-load pedal assist speed test, and it's very arduous for me to show much faster than 20kph pedalling by hand with the bike on a stand. Half speed, probably because the second magnet (Cateye) isn't long enough, or as long as the Bafang kit magnet; the Cateye needs another magnet stacked and stuck on to be closer to the sensor. The Bafang kit magnet is stronger than the Cateye, which is stronger than the cheapo AliExpress spoke magnets. As is, my bike will pass this ludicrous and absurdly stupid fantasy test, if the fuzz go by just speedo readout.
