"Our officers were out and about in Wisbech when they seized this mountain bike.
Upon closer exception, it was found that:
A battery pack had been placed on the bike, making it fall under the mechanically propelled vehicle category
The chain had been removed so the pedals were unable to be used

It has now been passed to the Vehicle Examination Unit (VEU) for further examination."

POLICE seized a £3.5k e-bike bought just a week ago after a yob "ran out of talent and came off his bike" as he tried to flee from officers.

What the hell was that diatribe at the end of that vid????

12.5mph if labour get their way??? someone is having wet farage dreams methinks??

Then he wants 17mph limit, no 17.5 mph limit would make him happy meanwhile tootling along on a 500w bike at a faster speed still??

Meanwhile thanks to the initial source/topic vid word is out that a sticker not often found on kit bikes is a MUST!!

So a Plod states that little has been done until now as we were in an 'education phase' Now they are acting on the regs.. - As long as the application of the regs is fair and consistent Only transgressors will complain..

meanwhile i will print off more tiny print labels to stick under the bottom bracket and similar awkward places and depending on IF and how im stopped and questioned i will decide which sticker to indicate they should look at..

That would not be wise, this is what the law says about positioning:

"fitted with a plate securely fixed in a conspicuous and readily accessible position showing—"

I've got labels on the seatpost and handlebar post for fatso cops, one on the motor for the more flexible rozzers, and there's "36V 250W" engraved underneath the motor by Bafang if fuzz get mouthy.

They aren't spoiling ALL the fun of high speeds on the roads, just maintaining their monopoly of it.
.
I passed a police car stopped at traffic lights, and I had to pull over shortly afterwards because they went at me sirens blaring. I think they wanted to see if I'd try to escape. Another time, they followed my bike slow and close for about a mile. I kept to <12mph till they turned off at the roundabout. Considering how daft my bike looks, I'm shocked I haven't yet been stopped for inspection. I'll televise the event if they do (GoPro on jawguard).

They said Devon and Cornwall have taken around 300 ebikes off the road.
Fabricated numbers no doubt.
A bit like when they claim to have taken 500,000 knives "off the street" The reality is most of those knives were from people handing them in, but they are effectively 'off the street'

I expect the reasons will be similar here. Dumped and abandoned, lost or stolen and coming into police possession become 'taken off the road'

Cheers, in all honesty in the wild i doubt my armchair bravado will be as strong and i will no doubt point at one of the more prominent labels. 5x iirc, If i ever get a stop. Tho im still kinda bummed the vertical print job ideal for the underside of chainstays didnt work, the speed metrics mph nor kmh will read legibly when printed vertically ;(

Deliveroo rider stopped by police in Leeds - this is why
A DELIVEROO rider ran off from police after being stopped because "he wasn't pedalling".
"The NPT spokesperson said: "Not all e-bikes are what they seem. If it's too fast to pedal, it's too fast to be legal". "
