My bike

Instead of leaving my Quando 2 sitting in the corner of the living room, I am thinking of buying a new battery, the 14 Ah from ONbike, as I dont know where else they sell them, but I am not going anywhere on that bike untill I get both brakes 100%, I got an exxcellant email explaining to me how it's done, but found when I tighted the brake the power would go off, this also was mentioned, so I really dont feel comfortable, I phoned the London 50cycles shop to ask about my brake, but they wouldnt help.,

I got told to send my bike to Birmingham, but the return costs would be madness just for a brake on an electric bike, theres a local postman with his bike that said he would 'have a go' but surely you do need some experiance with electric bikes to fix a brake, it is the left brake, it wouldnt be a problem on the right right side.

They are chargeing £500 for a 14ah Li on, but I am told I get 400% more miledge out of the bike than a 10ah, so that extra £100 does sound worth it.

I was surprized that a lot of the older models were gone, I think with my height I have to be careful I dont pick a bike thats too tall/big for me if i was to buy a new bike which was an option, but just think its a shame exchanging the bike because of the brake.

If anyone knows of a way to repair or a shop in/near London, I would get up there, it saves spending money on a battery when I cant ride the bike, this probably sounds like a simple thing for most of you, but the electric stops when you adjust that brake.

And that is the problem with bikes without a proper distribution/service network....... I am sure there must be someone in your area that can help, maybe someone can recommend a LBS with e bike experience. Or bring the instructions to a LBS and see if they can help. as for buying a new battery that is a decision only you can make, personally I would use it towards a better supported bike.

there is this chap, Steve W. I have used him to service bikes before and he is a member on here. not sure where you live, he certainly knows his stuff, and if you can bring bike to him in Bromley it will be cheaper

It sounds like an in line switch, if so then you are probably adjusting it too much at the lever and should take up the slack at the caliper. It may well be that the postie has a good chance of fixing it.

Have you tried The Electric Transport Shop, Gaynor?

Their web site implies that they are an electric bike repairer as well as retailer, so maybe worth a go. Camden's closer than Birmingham, anyway.

Had a bit of trouble logging on, now sorted..

I have several choices, it sounds like I can let the postie have a look, I will charge up the 3? year battery, put it in to make sure he isnt cutting off that battery power

(Oh btw i meant 40% longer but I am sure you guessed the 400 was a type 'o)

If the postie fails, like I did and my friend did, then I will will be interested in the looking up the 'Electric Transport Shop', I think camdem is easier to get to than Bromley, as i will be using trains, which is arkward but the end result is worth it! As at this stage, for quite some time I feel like the bike is being used as a staue.
I noticed i used to be fitter when I used the bike, then feel ill, now I am feeling much better, I feel cycling is great for keeping in shape, feeling good, listing spirits
Thankyou very much, appreciated

Gaynor:

Electric Bike Sales - Home

is the link.

I have NO idea what they're like, but as I only live a few miles NW of them, will be very interested in what sort of response you get.

Good luck whichever route you go down.

I've bought from there and found the service very good, the shop isn't the easiest place in London to get to though especially with a non working bike.

What a shame you don`t live near me, I`d fix that bike and make you a cuppa while you waited:D I`m North Norfolk.

Onmebike is near Epping, he is the electronic whizz.

Everything's so upside down I didn't mention that has I hadn't used the bike in over a year, that I finally found the spare battery keys BUT cant find the Li ion battery itself (I thought it was under my bed), spent ages last night searching the cupboards, I am such an hoarder.
I found the bike charger, then found my Kryptonite lock, But couldn't find the key, to that heavy duty lock to open it!

So anyway, found one of those locks where you flip the numbers round, I had forgotten the number but found it was easy to open has if you listen carefully to those sorts of locks you can sometimes hear them 'click' when the number is right, so if I can do that so can a stranger if the bike was tied outside a shop.

So, the problem is I cant test the bike with a battery inside, and I think you need that in before the brake is fixed, so I am wondering to go ahead and buy a new battery on line ....still undecided if I should go for the 10ah (which I had) or the 14ah... but what if I buy it and it doesn't work, I mean the brake.

That offer sounds great, I think I would need a cuppa traveling from Hastings right up to the north of England.

So to buy or not to buy, the tires are flat, I hope that's just from the heat and a good pump will fix it, it's beautiful weather outside just perfect for riding your bike.

Don't know what to do, surely if I re read an excellent, but complicated (to me) im/PM last year Re: the brake, then I think I' take a chance and order that battery...better do it quick maybe before the government tax's it... but still in doubt.

And you know what they say, if in doubt, don't.
Oh, ..... would need to buy a new battery at some point, so going to get my credit card out and put myself out of my misery, then get it (battery) then im back to square one on getting it fixed.

Surely there are electric bike repairers somewhere near you, Gaynor? For instance, there MUST be at least one in super-trendy Brighton, which isn't that far along the coast.

I dont own a car, but brighton isnt that far, it is a 4hour return trip by train, I did look at the map for the shop in Brighton, there used to be two shops that did sell electric bikes near my area, both of them stopped selling electric bikes, I think as people were having problems with the bikes and the shop said it's too expensive.

Where is the cutout switch for the brakes - at the lever, the caliper or in the middle?
Sorry, I dont even know the answer to that question
I just grab the brake and nothing works...

Sorry Gaynor - I still make the silly automatic assumption that people have cars, when the truth is that many don't...

There is a electric bike shop in kedderminster, which has ezee bikes and batterys and more, which are prepared to fix my bike, but looking at the train times it's a TEN hour return train journey...

I ordered the 14 ah battery.

Happier times when riding my Quando, two years ago

you could use a bike courier? they advertise on ebay.....probably cheaper and less hassle then a train.
