In other news, my "guaranteed to rust" magnet thing came a day early, so I've got that going for me.

OK so I've ordered a battery and bag, a KT controller, LCD and PAS.

I HOPE YOU'RE ALL VERY HAPPY NOW!

:D
We hope that you're happy now. I'm sure you will be. If you're not happy with the KT controller, you can send it to me and I'll reimburse every expense associated with the purchase and shipping to me. I would never advise anybody to do anything that might put them in a detrimental situation, and I'm happy to put my money where my mouth is.

You are a star, I was only kidding, I'm sure it will all work out great. But be warned, I'm going to be coming to YOU for advice on how to set up all the settings for the KT system. They might as well be written in Hieroglyphics as far as I'm concerned.

I have a stash of four (and counting) Yosepower Lishui controllers surplus from kits that I've replaced with KT controllers. The difference in control is like night and day and I wouldn't go back. Like you I was concerned about the KT settings jungle. But with a bit of help from here and playing around I got them set up as I wanted. Be warned though, the KT's open up the possibility of 48v. One of my bikes has a PSW 48v. battery which puts the others in the shade. Unfortunately I have two perfectly good Yosepower 36v. batteries to use so the others will have to wait. The spending just never stops!

9 times out of ten, I've done nothing to the settings, but since the police have started cracking down, I wanted mine to be completely legal, so set p4=1 and c4=3 gives 4 mph start assist plus throttle acts as a power boost to give instant level 5 when you press it, which saves a lot of messing about with buttons when you need a burst of power or max power for as long as you want to hold the throttle, like when going up a steep hill.

OK so a new day, the sun is shining, time to open the Yosepower box.

These were the contents - minus the motor wheel and the 9 pin extension cable, the reasons for which shall become apparent shortly.

Most of these parts I have no actual use for, I don't use throttles or brake sensors plus I have my stuff arriving from TBK soon. I guess it either goes on eBay or gets added to my box of bits.

I emailed Yosepower before I ordered and specifically asked if the rim was 406 because I wanted to fit 20x2.0 tyres. They replied, the tyres "should" fit. To be fair they did attach a picture of the rim dimensions which were within 406 parameters.

On getting the wheel out of the box, it says right there on the rim - 406!

This is all the labelling you get on the motor, so not UK legal then!

So once again I have had to make my own label, which will be getting attached to the motor toot suite.

So, I observed that there are two M5 rivnuts on the frame in a very useful place, so just for fun I stripped all the electrics (bar the motor) from my Trek and fitted them to the Carrera. This leaves all the Yosepower bits unused (apart from the 9 pin extension cable, which I had to use on the Carrera) which may help if I come to sell them.

I had one of these Wolf Tooth mounts in my box of bits, which enabled me to attach the battery cradle to the frame. The Wolf Tooth is attached by two screws, the battery is attached to cradle by three screws. I think that if this was a permanent job, I would also add cable ties or velcro straps to fix the battery cradle to frame more securely.

One slight problem is the fork drop outs are nearly horizontal, so I was not able to create much of a drip-loop. Doesn't really matter, I don't cycle on rainy days anyway.

So, I took it out for a test drive to the local park and it all works really well, who knew 20" bikes could be such fun?

This is about as folded as the bike gets, and the battery can easily be removed as well of course. So not exactly a folder any more then but still much easier to get in and out of a car than a full size mountain bike.

And, anyway, when my box of goodies arrives from TBK and gets fitted it will be back to a full folder again.

Did you notice the on/off power that I mentioned above?

I don't get the problem with the rim. You asked for 406mm, they confirmed 406mm, 406 mm arrived, but you can't use it?

It's engraved as an AKM250 although I agree that adding a 'W' would have been helpful.
Yes!

I have that problem on my BBS01. I don't look forward to arguing it out with some keen young Gestapo officer at the side of the road.

The motor engraving says 'Mm340.250' and some letters - most unhelpful.

I have affixed an after market Bafang sticker to the frame which carries the legally required information.

Had it not been for the vast amount of irresponsible riding and ridiculous excess power and speed of many many conversions, i would never have had to worry about the motor markings. Four years ago, no one was ever likely to be stopped unless riding dangerously. Not any more.

The problem is a lazy blind eye has been cast upon those unlawful bikes and scooters for too long , now resulting in crack downs......

Emm...to be fair, it felt exactly the same as it does on my Trek. I've never known anything different to compare it with. I will be able to answer this question better when I get my KT kit.

And half the time I was riding it, I was thinking of other things. I was getting an annoying tick from the front brake, I know why, in my haste to get the job done I just fitted a manky old rotor from my box of bits instead of taking off the original rotor and using that.

I don't get the problem with the rim. You asked for 406mm, they confirmed 406mm, 406 mm arrived, but you can't use it?
There is no problem with the rim. As you will know, 20" wheels come in two sizes 406 (far fatter tyres) and 451 (for skinny tyres). I learnt this from Peter.Bridge because he says the Carrera Intercity Disc 9 has 451 rims which only accept skinny tyres. (I did not know that 406 meant millimetres).

Google says this about 406 rims:

"Rim Width: Can vary, with common widths including 25mm and 19mm"

I asked Yose power if their 20" kits definitely had 406 rims because I wanted to fit chunky tyres. He appeared to have never heard of the term '406' but he said fatter tyres "should" fit and he sent me a picture of the rim dimensions.

So I was surprised when the wheel arrived and it clearly states on the rim "406". Which he (the guy at Yose Power) should have known, I mean it's their product after all.

And yes, I can use it, it fits the bike and my 20x2.0 tyre perfectly.

I apologise if my post was confusing, I should have been clearer.

Here's the picture the guy at Yose Power sent me. The dimensions fit within what Google says a 406 rim should be...see above.

To be fair to Yose Power, they answer email quickly and they try to be helpful.

I also asked about their battery that clamps to the seat post (the type that Peter bought and adapted to fit to his head tube). I asked if it would fit my 45mm seat post and he said definitely not and sent me a picture of the seat post clamp dimensions.

I didn't even notice the bottom bit. The first 250 might be coincidence.
95RS F250-3620

Model number, Front, 250W, 36V, 20"
Neither did I, Neither would Plod.

Also no mention of maximum assist speed, which is a legal requirement on labelling of eBikes and conversion kits.

To add to the above, I just read the email from Yose Power (Joey) again and his actual words were, "I think it will fit" (the 2.0 tyre).

To be fair to Yose Power, their service has been very good.
