Jolly exciting, I hope they bring out a bike with Plasma Conduits and Warp Drive soon.

It is interesting the big boys are showing an interest at last, but I have seen an increasing number of E-Bikes around and about lately, and if the giants are getting activated, they must feel the market is approaching a size that is viable for them to invest in new tech.

Both Siemens and Telefunken have produced concept e-bikes in the last year, so there could be more German firms coming in before too long. One side effect of more competition there could be lower prices.

We are now getting a long way from the 'Lorry wiper motor and 12 volt lead acid battery' stage.
Interesting days ahead!

Am I reading this correctly?

The AEG centre (crank?) drive does not need to have a unique modified frame such as the present Bosch and Panasonic units require? If so, presumably the AEG system can be fitted to any bike.

It certainly sounds like an add-on which would give it wide appeal, but on the other hand it might only be for manufacturers like the Shimano Steps e-system.

If its any good and available as an add-on to fit to a bike of your choosing, it certainly would be very appealing.

An that point flecc - STEPS was announced to much fanfare back in June 2010..........and then I've never heard so much as a whisper about it

knowledage chap that you are - do you have any insights ? It sounded so promising (especially a battery with 8,000 charge cycles lifespan!)

They have obviously caught on to how well Bosch system is doing and decided to have a go for themselves.....

It won't be any bike, probably bikes with a straight through BB of a certain size.

No insight at all, but it's lack of adoption is as I forecast at the time. Why? Obviously low powered, very design restrictive since it only comes as a whole system, and as a consequence far more expensive than using Suzhou Bafang and other sources. I think Shimano were relying on their brand name, but that counts for nothing in e-biking electricals.
