Thinking of selling my 2008 Sport SE and getting a new one as I would then be able to interchange the batteries with my wife's new 2009 705SE as she will only be using her bike when we travel. This way I can keep both batteries in good condition.....

before I buy another one, I have heard talk of a 906? does any one know if there developments around the corner as in that case I would leave it a while before I change.

I think the 906 is still in preparation. It uses a front hub motor from Japanese company Dapush and the bike is aimed at the high end market so will be much more expensive, having a new frame and high quality components including an Alfine hub gear. It isn't replacing the 905 series, they will run in parallel.

This link shows the prototype, the actual final one will be somewhat different:

Thanks Flecc! I tried a search and found zilch.

Looks a lot like the 905 sport. what do you think it will offer over and above the 905? 500 watt motor maybe?

Is Dapush better then the normal motor they use than?

is this the model with carbon frame? don't think the expense will justify a 1 kg saving though?

sorry for all the questions as I dont want to make a mistake.......

The new stylish frame they showed us recently is for the 906, can't remember if it was carbon fibre.

The Dapush motor is a new product and some of the delay has been due to development work on that. Therefore we know nothing of it yet, though it is a 250 watt rated motor. It's probably only in a front wheel version at present.

They are also investigating having a 500 watt Suzhou Bafang motor model, but that would be based on the 905 with a rear motor.

It's designed as a fleet bike, hard wearing and low maintenance. It was designed to sell to the emergency services and engineered accordingly, as a result the cost will be considerably higher and for the private buyer not necessarily better than the 905.
If it is designed for the emergency services they will probably err on the side of caution when compying with ebike laws.

I assume that you cant have internal hub gears and a motor on the rear wheel, and that why the motor's in the front wheel?

Why change to the hub gears?

For the type of commercial market that Mussels mentions, low maintenance and reliability are paramount, so a hub gear fits that better than derailleurs which are vulnerable to external damage and need more frequent adjustment.

Unless you really like the 2009 version for some reason, why not just build a battery connector converter? (That's a bit of a mouthful!) I'm sure David and Norman would help you out with the required parts. Seems a bit much to change the bike just to get a different battery connector!

It's not only that.....although it is the main reason. But I like the speed control on new model as it was always necessary IMO. Plus being technophobic lol the 2 year warranty would be a comfort;)

906

Hi

The 906 which is going to be launched late sumer 09 will indeed be sporting the carbon/alloy frame being used on the 905 World Tour bike, more for strength than the 500 grammes or so it saves.

The Alfine hub although expensive is not only a low maintenance unit but is a superb gear box offering a high gear akin to a 12 tooth sprocket which when used in conjunction with the 54 tooth chain drive will allow steady riding at a very easy cadence. It also allows gears to be changed easily when the bike is at stand still.

The bike will have all kind of goodies in which the police are interested including magnesium alloy air lock out front shocks with handle bar lock out and adjustment, high end Shimano disks back and front Continental Town and County tyres to name but a few.

The very neat 250W Dapush motor has come through our trials with flying colours the free wheel is superb and it now has the RoHS compliance certification we needed. It will also be featured in our kit which will be launched in 2010.

The price hasn't been fixed yet but you would not see much change out of £2000.00 if you wanted one. We will only be making 50 in the first run so if you want to put your name down please drop me a line at miall@aol.com

All the best David

Will the 500 watt motor kit discussed recently for the 905 be available in a complete bike? rather then having to shell out for 2 motors and the labour etc......

what exactly is a "carbon alloy" frame? I've heard of carbon fibre frames and of course alloy ones but not the two combined...

Pending David coming in, I'll have a guess at carbon fibre wrapped alloy tube, since there are some bike handlebars made that way and it matches the appearance in the photos.

The only other bike use of that term I've seen is for carbon alloy forks, which have carbon fibre fork legs and an alloy steering tube.

Otherwise I know the term as referring to carbon alloy steels.

Hi Alex

The Guru is as always, spot on!

The frame is still an alloy frame but made from much thinner walled extrusions, hence the saving in weight. However the main benefit is from the added strength that this frame type gives to the bike by laminating alloy and carbon.

All the best David

Thanks, David. Could you give any details about the Wisper kit? As you might have gathered from a different thread which I started, I'm keen to have a Wisper, but want a light one. If you're not going to produce a lighter Wisper, then I'll have to make my own!

The 500 watt kit being discussed here is a conversion kit for existing wisper bikes and consists of a rear wheel motor and controller only. A stand alone complete kit (probably front wheel motor) for converting normal bikes is also on the way I believe.

But any kit with decent capacity battery is going to add considerably to bike weight. Even with a lightweight bike, cant see the savings as being significant..............

I thought it was on this thread but its not, from memory:eek: £295?

From what I remember it is still "legal" so restricted to 15 mph with a 20 mph max. but with much more torque for getting up hills.

I thought David was taking advice on it first? Just because another manufacturer has said they are legal doesn't make it so.
