The clue to who is right here is that Trump's reaction was condemned also by many Republicans. The violence was orchestrated by a large mob of far right extremists, Ku Klux Klan and white Nazis. It was that grouping which started violence. One of them was charged with Second Degree Murder after driving into a small counter protest and killing a woman, injuring 19 more.

What did Trump say? He condemned violence by "many sides".

This was a rally of white supremacists and Clan members. Where does the 'many sides' come in?

You don't see that?

It was only after Trump saw a bad reaction to his 'violence on many sides' remark from Republicans that he made another announcement.

If you look at what I said above you will see that I am not anti Republican. I am against Trump's version of it. It has become a lie machine, facilitated by extremist radio stations and TV stations like Fox News. Trump is not a Republican in any traditional sense. He is an opportunist liar and self interested criminal. Trump supported the Democrats until quite recently, when he spotted a personal opportunity.

The fact that fanatics have seized the Republican Party Machine does not mean that they are following the traditions of the Republican Party, any more than Corbyn and Momentum's seizure of the British Labour Party meant that Corbyn and Momentum were representative of the vast majority of Labour voters. The truth of that fact can be seen in the mass defection of Labour voters in 2019 and the collapse of the so-called Red Wall.

At Trump's accession he was flanked by several of the richest people on the planet.

Making things good for the blue collar workers that flocked to support him?

Ha ha ha ha - pull the other one.....

Three of those people own more wealth than half of the American population.

I wonder why they are all grinning at their boy taking on his new job......

Trump made the point to call his social platform 'Truth'.
We have here members who are perfectly logical on lots of things except when it comes to Trump.
Everything about Trump will quickly become emotional.

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

What a LIAR!!! He is constantly at war with constitutional provisions.

A list:

1. Attacks on the Separation of Powers
  • Ignoring Congressional Oversight: Refused to comply with congressional subpoenas during the impeachment investigations and blocked key witnesses from testifying.
  • Declaring a National Emergency for Border Wall Funding (2019): Used emergency powers to reallocate military funds after Congress refused to fund the border wall, raising concerns over executive overreach.
2. Undermining the Rule of Law
  • Intervening in DOJ Cases: Trump and his allies pressured the Department of Justice in cases involving allies like Michael Flynn and Roger Stone, violating norms of judicial independence.
  • Pardoning Allies: Issued pardons to political allies and associates (e.g., Joe Arpaio, Roger Stone, Michael Flynn), which many critics viewed as corrupt uses of presidential clemency.
3. Threats to Free Speech and the Press (First Amendment)
  • Labeling the Press "Enemy of the People": Regularly attacked journalists and news outlets, attempting to delegitimize unfavorable media.
  • Threats to Revoke Broadcast Licenses: Suggested revoking licenses of media companies critical of his administration.
4. Abuse of Power and Impeachments
  • First Impeachment (2019): For abuse of power and obstruction of Congress after pressuring Ukraine to investigate political rival Joe Biden.
  • Second Impeachment (2021): For incitement of insurrection following the January 6 Capitol attack, when he encouraged supporters to challenge the 2020 election results.
5. January 6 and Election Subversion
  • Refusal to Accept Election Results: Repeatedly made false claims of election fraud after losing the 2020 election, culminating in efforts to overturn the results.
  • Pressure on State Officials: Attempted to coerce officials like Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find" enough votes to change the election outcome.
  • Attempted to Overturn Electoral Certification: Pressured Vice President Pence and Congress to reject certified electoral votes—seen as a direct threat to constitutional democracy.
6. Violations of the Emoluments Clauses
  • Profiting from the Presidency: Continued to own and benefit from his businesses while in office, including foreign governments spending money at Trump properties—seen by many legal experts as violating the Constitution’s Emoluments Clauses.
7. Attacks on Judicial Independence
  • Disparaging Judges: Frequently attacked judges and court decisions that went against him, including making personal attacks (e.g., calling a judge a “so-called judge”).
8. Use of Federal Forces Against Protesters (First and Tenth Amendments)
  • Lafayette Square Incident (2020): Ordered federal officers to forcibly clear peaceful protesters so he could hold a photo op at a church, seen as a violation of First Amendment rights.

Trump has taken corruption to incredible heights, they arent even hiding it now.
And not just the $400,000,000 747 kitted out like a sultans palace, and which he is looking to keep as his own when he leaves office isnt the half of it.
I believe his family have raked in industrial contracts to the tune of about $2.5B

Will any of us survive the age of the oligarch ?

Trump says he's on a mission from God!
He is simply divorced from reality.

He is like many dictators we have seen throughout history - but more recent ones too; dozens in the last century, and some in this one.

He IS on an Imperial trip. He even openly boasts about taking over new territories.

Combined with his anger at constitutional checks and balances, punishing opposition, or even different ideas, and removal of constitutional rights, the conclusion is inescapable.

How many clues do people need to cause them to see reality? Maybe his fans like that stuff. I can understand why that mind set might appeal to the very dim, and forgotten among his own population, but he has fans here.... WTF!?!?

Ha ha ha ha - You just COULDN'T make this stuff up! :)

Another change. It's the US madman Hokey Cokey folks!

Join in the fun!

You put the tariffs on
You put the tariffs off
On Off
On Off
You shake it all about

For how long will the USA be considered a serious player and a serious country when it is being governed by this mad man?

How long before massive shortages appear in US supply chains?

How much administrative effort is being made, unmade and start all over again in the US trade services who deal with this stuff?

This lunatic needs to be taken to the funny farm right now.

Come on Saneagle - come and tell us how it is all part of a serious plan..... :)

No - tell us we really don't have a bipolar, ADHD sufferer in the White House making arbitrary decisions, moment by moment and changing his idiotic mind five minutes later after announcing his latest impulse on Twatter

The richest people in the world flank Trump at his inauguration.

These people own more than the combined assets of half the population of the USA.

Why did Trump bring them centre stage at his inauguration where he swore allegiance to the Constitution of the United States?

Naked greed at the heart of American power.

I'm not against people who run good businesses getting rich or very rich, but this is something different. It is bringing the super rich into the heart of political power and influence. Rule by oligarchy is pretty much rule by dictators.

Not so different to the Empire...

If the courts tell him that he exceeds his powers, he will do it anyway.
In trump versus universities, Trump has just told US embassies to stop processing students visa applications.

Can you ever remember a previous President that involved himself in the micro managing of society with constant edicts like this?

I can't. I don't think it has ever been done before.

I think half of it takes place at night when he gets excited about something he saw on TV and like Nero or Henry V111, he just issues a proclamation. Government by arbitrary impulse is not a great idea.

Cork City Ireland has just got rid of several Robot GREEN trees that it installed at a cost of €400,000 with maintenance of €17,000 per year.
They will be replaced with REAL urban trees (London plane?) at €10,000 each. Apparently the "Robo trees" created a smell of stench in the area. Who've thunk? :)
