Is there a way to see how much harmonic distortion there is on the mains short of a 220vac recording oscilloscope ?
Why are you interested in a small amount harmonics on AC supply? If a device needs DC supply, harmonics are removed by the ac-dc converter stage. Atherwise, the amount of harmonics generated by the appliance is usually more than the grid's but gets absorbed locally. Incidentally, that guy regurgitate irrelevant facts and fictions. Btw, datacentres have their own uninteruptible power supply circuits so feeding no harmonics back to the grid in any significant amount.

I suppose they have to provide a minimum level of service to help EVs with enough charge to reach the nearest charging stations. With new EV battery packs capable of 2000 miles on one full charge, the diesel backup generators won't be often needed.
Yeah, my bike can now do 1000 miles on one charge too. Long live EVs!

There are always straws to be clutched at.
They talk about some of these "straws" in this doc about the IEEE519-2014 standard.
"Effects of Harmonics
Harmonics don’t only influence the signal shapes, but operation and the life span of electrical devices and equipment. Harmonic frequencies in motors and generators can result a various mechanical phenomena that all lead to efficiency reduction. Among these are higher audible noise, faster ageing of the shaft, insulation and mechanical parts. Furthermore pulsating or reduced torque as well as increased heat development."

Wiki quotes IE61000-4-7 as *the* standard on Harmonics and their eddy current / hysteresis heating losses in motor cores, shortening their life.
But it's a bit over my pay grade..

Might take a chance for the Scrap price? :p
They are cars bought for special projects which have changed or cancelled, so they are surpluses. You have auctions like that in China but they don't have much if any effect on growth of EV sales across the world.
Demand for oil seems to have peaked.

As I said, the guy regurgitate irrelevant facts ans fictions. If he did the calculations instead, he would have seen that UPS that datacentres use takes out harmonics from the grid instead of add to.

Datacentres have to comply with IEEE519 and EU EN610000-3-2 for their permit. Their servers have APFC (active power factor correction). You worry about nothing really.

It blacked out Spain, Portugal, and more..
How is that "worry about nothing"?
Did you forget? Here's a reminder

So "green", so "sustainable", so "sunk cost"!
They are going to clean up this pollution out of the ocean, yes?
Cobalt Tuna in lithium salts anyone?
