ps: Why do you think the Dahon Jetstream wouldn't be secure at faster speed?[/QUOTE]

It just doesn't have the stability of a larger-wheeled bike. The steering is two quick. You could do it, but you'd need to concentrate, so it wouldn't be very relaxing. 15mph feels about right. This would be similar for any 20" wheeled bike. A 16" one must surely be worse.

Ok, I've seen multiplescmember from endlessphere with 20" bike at very high speed but theybdon't seem to have stability problem. Zombie reaches 55mph with his 20" folder and said it was even more stable than what we initially though.

So maybe it worth a try and anyway most of the time I should be around 20-23 mph.

My experience matches that of d8veh, smaller wheel bikes tend to have steering that's too fast for high speed stability. My current main bike does have 20" wheels and I do take it to 30 mph downhill very occasionally and to about 26 mph frequently, but high concentration at those speeds is essential.

Folders often have narrow handlebars which doesn't help, since road vibrations reacting against the hands on narrow bars produce small rotations, twitchy and needing constant fast minor corrections. Therefore replacing the bars with wider ones helps a lot, since that effect is reduced. Here's the wider and slightly lowered bars on mine:

Cwah, I will probably be ordering more motors from BMS soon.
If you want I can buy an extra one and I can ship it to you for free as long as the additional postage on the inital order isn't to much more.

Just thoguht I'd give you a heads up.

Hello Scottyf,

Catsnapper is also doing a group purchase. Maybe you can't contact him about it? I thought to buy from him initially, but you can maybe order together to lower the cost?

Is the weight of the wheel relevant? I was thinking of Vespas etc. A heavy wheel would have a better gyroscopic effect.

Not sure how heavy are vespas wheels? Do you have a link?

Weight is relevant, but diameter has a bigger effect. Speed is also relevant. As a general rule, for the same type of vehicle, bigger wheels will be slower steering and more stable.

BTW, actually managed to run myself over on a Vespa in 1969. I had a BSA250 c15 and my mate let me have a go on his Vespa in a car park. I had my leg out while I attempted to turn, and the quick steering took me by surprise. Somehow the wheel pointed back at my leg, trapped it so that I was dragged off, and the scooter carried on over me. Luckily, neither myself or the scooter were too damaged. I think that's why I'm always a bit nervous about small wheels even though I've owned two scooters myself since.

I asked a seller on ebay, and it seems that the rear dropout of the mezzo is 132 mm. It should fit the bafang isn't it?

Yeah 3 mm is nothing. Easily bendable to move it and pinch it up no worries.

My frame is aluminium and a suppose where I've been lucky is the actual drop outs are not on the frame but there a different metal that actually screws onto the frame. Hence Why i've got away with no torque arm's before.
I now run two torque arm's each side that Alan sent me.

I think you can get away with about 10mm on aluminium on most bikes without it causing an issue.

All the Chinese suppliers will be shut down for a couple of weeks for their New Year. You can get them from Germany, I think, but very expensive.

Congrats on your bike purchase. Its an interesting bike for sure and I think much better than the original AMXMA one you were looking at, that wheeled along folded up.

Thanks D8veh and Catsnapper. These Bafang are really expensive. For this price maybe I should go for a mac or Ezee? But I'm not sure the little Ezee would be able to handle the wattage..
