Bafang BBS02 would be my choice.
I have one on my 29er and its far better than the 1000w hub motor on my other ebike.

It replaces the bottom bracket where the pedals fit on.
You need to know the width of it.
The motor costs around £400 then you also need a battery.

Well I'm actually a lawyer so when they use the word legal it doesn't really mean anything to me as I stand on common jurisdiction .. I won't bore u with the details ;) mainly for off road and some road riding.. there's so much technical know how needed I'm a little confused

yes also the spokes dont come loose and can use the cassette as is on the bike and the motor weight is better as in the middle of the bike than on the rear wheel.

it might look alot of money but a 500w batt for my bike is 700 quid.

Plus
That's great thanks xx ... so mid drive is more for off road and hubby motor is more for on road?
Even if travelling more than 30mph they would have to provide evidence which is not going to be easy as they need to have measured over a certain distance :)
