I have been on this site for a few months now, why on earth don't we just enjoy the pleasures of e biking and stop grumbling about bikes being legal or not. Just enjoy being out on your bike I don't think many riders are going to go crazy on their bikes no matter the power available. I use what I need when I need it such as steep hills, apart from that I try to use pedal power as much as I can. All I can say is just enjoy your bike whatever you have.:D:D:D:D:

John,

The answer is really quite simple, but requires a little self-discipline.

All forums consist of 'threads', the subject content of which will interest some, but not others. On occasions, a thread in which we may have a personal interest may be taken 'off topic', in such circumstances, use the 'quote' facility to bring the thread back 'on-topic', ignore any posts that attempt to de-rail the the original thread topic.

The one single thing I have learned since I started using this forum, is the need to develope the ability of 'selective blindness', ignoring the 'flamers' 'trolls' 'baiters' and those that over-exercise their right to reply to criticism.

Keep the faith John!, the original spirit and intention of Pedelecs UK remains strong and invincable.

All the best
Bob

Yes, this forum is no different to many others covering a wide range of topics but it does seem to have a number of slightly more sensitive members than some I participate in! Maybe its the demographic or just a limited exposure to forum 'life'..... Self regulation is good but if a particular member is getting under your skin there is an ignore facility in the settings you can invoke for that member so you cant read their posts, however, it doesn't stop you seeing the post if its been quoted.

Forums like this are about two things in my view. One is sharing information, the other is entertainment.

For many people, and I'm one, entertainment includes discussion. Sometimes the discussion gets fairly robust and if someone is the shrinking violet type they won't like it. On the other hand, people who enjoy debating and with strong views enjoy it very much.

You'll note that the folk who get involved in the strong debates tend to be the same ones - I think it's safe to say that their continuing and regular participation signals that they are enjoying themselves, even if their immediate comments don't.

So, the reason we don't just enjoy biking and stop grumbling is that some of us enjoy grumbling and scrapping. As has been pointed out, you can always add someone with views you don't like to your kill file.

If you do, though, you might as well buy a manual for your bike and just read that instead. Yet - here you are, grumbling that people grumble :)

Can't say I've ever rationalised it like that but yes; eternally reading about the merits of winter tyres or such like can cause my eyes to glaze over at times. I do like to read the opinions of several contributors here who write in good, standard English and manage to get across their message, which I may or may not agree with, while sprinkling their piece with a little light-hearted humour.

O.K! I love my ebike. Without the 'e' bit I wouldn't be riding a bike. I'd be sitting in a tin box guzzling CO2 or whatever it is I.C. motors pump out. I use the throttle most ot the time - and a couple of inhalors before I start off! But the point is I can still enjoy cycling. I love reading the posts which endlessly debate the merits of watts, amps & ohms: I don't understand a word of it but comprehension isn't the only point of language!
Just waiting for the breeze to moderate a little ... then off again.
May the e-wind be ever at your back!

I think watts was a Victorian doctor and ohms his detective friend who played a violin, not sure about amps though, short for ampshire perhaps. :)

I thought you said you were going for a ride? That's a bit of a volte-face for you isn't it :D
I am resisting as it's currently not possible as I am feeling polarised, I ACtually have no capacity to pedal and I'm too faraday from my machine, maybe anoder day.

Must atompt to stop writing drivel :D

That's a battery of electrical terms you've used there eTim. AC what you are getting at but I fear that you are biased. Unfortunately I am tired now and can offer no further resistance.

Enough of this time wasting! I am now off for a short circuit of Richmond Park. I shall continue this conversation when my Battery is recharged.

And if you can continue this, you are a better man than me ;)

Not much impedance to progress from hills there Lemmy. I hope you were wrapped up for insulation from the cold and carried your cellphone in case of emergencies.
