  1. Maybe because they are no longer fitted to factory bikes and restricted to the kit market the demand is not there for more companies to develop and improve them. I have salvaged half twist throttles from old SLA bikes which have been left outside to rust, they appear more robust and better made and still working.
  2. The higher AH rating will give you more range, but not more power to the motor.
  3. Ok, so as anotherkiwi suggested, the 30Q is prob your best bet as those cells will be under the least stress and should therefor last well.
  4. It would help if we knew the size of your motor and controller. there is no point paying for high capacity/discharge cells if you dont want range and are running a low power system.
  5. I think because most sellers rate them at 3500mA capacity
  6. You don't mention getting in touch with the dealer that sold you the bike. they maybe really helpful, or not, but got to be worth a call. They may be able to hook you up with a local dealer through the Bosch service centre, as in Denis99's case.
  7. Like Nealh said, really well thought out and neat, great looking bike. I like the use of cordless tool batteries, makes for very easy replacement. The Americans have a big advantage using these, as they are around half the cost as the UK. It's also great to see someone running an older BBS02 at 60v.
  8. Not sure if I am asking somthing that nobody will want to answer, but I'm curious to know if any of you on here see it as a serious choice for future models. It does look a very slick unit with impresive performance figures and it will be OPEN SOURCE!! Not that I'm bias or anything!!
  9. I can understand your frustration with what appears to be blatant "money for nothing" behaviour, but you have bought a bike with a completely closed system designed to make the manufacture and dealers lots of after sales money in as many ways as they can think of.
  10. Alternating teeth on the front chain wheel, narrow, wide, narrow, wide and so on. Come on, keep up!!
  11. Narrow/wide chain ring def helps with chain derailment compared to the bafang items. I considered one of these last year, but ended up getting a good package deal on a Lekkie Bling Ring on my bbs02 build. Can't recommend them, but they look well made and postage is only around 3 euros, so some saving compared to a Lekkie. I think they do adapters as well. http://precialps.com/uk/24-bafang-bbs01-bbs02
  12. Your right Steve, I'm getting in a mid drive muddle again:confused:
  13. I guess the controller gets good air flow in that position and the battery keeps yer knees nice and warm at full chuff:rolleyes:
  14. Ground clearance of the motor is the main reason I do not like converted F/S bikes , otherwise I would prob of built one by now. That and the fact you are forced to carry your battery in a backpack or fabricate a custom frame case for the majority of bikes on the market. I must say I have not come across the TSDZ motors, but I'm assuming they are only made in 68/73mm size. Is there a good reason why most run them with an external controller?
  15. Seems rude not to reply as we are in the same County. Not promising anything at this point, but I may be able to help you build a pack. I should know better having spent many hours( or was it days, or weeks ) doing this in the past, but hey!! need to know a bit more info on the cell so maybe PM me a phone number and we can have a chat about it.
  16. Minexplorer, I am the same as you, and many others here I think, who would rather fix something themselves, and on the whole, enjoy the experience and gain some knowledge from doing so, but you are in the position of having a warranty, so take advantage of that. For what it's worth and from my experience with bbs**units, I think you have a damaged controller through no fault on your part, as far as I can tell, so you are fully justified to make a claim.
  17. The width of the bottom bracket is not the only thing to focus on. The secondary drive casing(big round bit) on the motor has to spaced far enough out to clear the chain stay/pivot. Then you can start worrying about chain alignment. F/S bikes are about as hard as it gets to convert and end up with a bike you want to ride and is fit for purpose.
  18. Hi All Thought it about time I posted something on here after lurking and learning for some time. I've been fixing/breaking/building (not sure which I've done more of) and riding ebikes for a couple of years and I hope something of what I have learnt may be of use to some on here.
  19. Your friends friend is right that removing 19mm from the bottom bracket will not weaken the frame, BUT it will not reduce the width of the chain stays/pivot to allow fitting of a 73mm bbs02. Have a look at this Giant f/s fitted with a 100mm bbshd. https://www.empoweredcycles.com/blogs/news/bafang-bbshd-bottom-bracket-adaptor-for-shimano-press-fit-41-89-5mm
