Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor
Hi Bud, Did you happen to pay over £100 of the purchase on a credit card? if so, your credit card company is jointly liable, so it may be worth exploring this avenue with them.

Woosh Big Bear Ls quick review
Yes, my ideal aim is to get to work without working up a sweat(difficult in the uk weather atm due to it being so humid). I did notice towards the end of the ride that my hands were a bit numb, no doubt due to be me holding the handlebars too tightly. Hopefully it will improve

Woosh Big Bear Ls quick review
Hi All, I applied for a ebike through my works cycle scheme and have been eagerly researching what would be most appropriate for my daily commute, and finally decided on the Woosh Big Bear LS. The reason i went for the LS version is so that my other half can also use the bike. The bike arrived this afternoon, and after spending a good bit of time unpacking it(never seen something packaged so well). The battery came fully charged which was a surprise as I was expecting to charge it overnight. I had the original twist throttle replaced with a thumb one(based on general feedback about twist and go throttles on here) and also had marathon plus tyres installed. I have just been out for my first ride, and rode from home to work and back. Cant believe how much of a difference the electric assist makes. The ride was the most comfortable i have had, even though part of the route is down a disused / private road which appears as if its been aerial bombed. Its going to take me a few more rides and hours to get used to the assist as it can be a bit disconcerting at the highest level as it feels like the bike is going to run away from you,and then when it hits the legal limit and cuts out. I cant fault woosh (thank you Hatti and Andy) through the whole selection and order process. If my other half gets the ebike bug, my first port of call will be back to woosh again. Cheers

another feature worth investigating is to cater for the winter, and people who use indoor power trainers.

Can I hang my bike up ?
Dont see that being an issue to be honest bud.

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval
Yes I agree, all things considered this is a very minor possible flout of the law. In the scheme of things and being pragmatic, the powers that be , have other more important things to prioritise.

Can I hang my bike up ?
ah, you didn't mention that in your original post, so I had assumed you were asking with reference to the electrical side of the bike. Will it be hanging up pretty much its in normal horizontal orientation? end of the day, the back wheel takes your own weight , when you are cycling so don't see why hanging it, would be an issue. I hang my bikes up in the garage by a pulley system that anchors onto the frame and the seat, works well. Something similiar to this --> https://www.amazon.co.uk/BICYCLE-PULLEY-HOIST-CYCLE-STORAGE/dp/607454574X

Bafang 350 watt BBS01 - could I sell it?
to be fair, the law on this point is confusing, although there are parallels in the car industry in which emissions are tested under factory conditions and return one value, but in the real world are significantly higher.

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval
i have been reading this thread with interest.. Yea, no reason why you cannot test drive the bike(prior to e-fitting) to confirm that there are no mechanical issues then afterwards fit the electrical components. Granted that this approach while strictly speaking is legal, it does go against the spirit of the regulation. food for thought

Can I hang my bike up ?
Yes, are you talking about long term storage, or just say at the end of the day? The battery tech in ebikes is pretty much the same as is in your phone, and imagine the positions/orientations it ends up during a normal day.

new electric bike project on Kickstarter
I totally agree but the additional cost of this bike is due no doubt to its unique selling point - the heart rate feature. Makes me ponder if a raspberry pi(or other sbc) connected between the battery and motor on a normal e-bike could do something similar.mmmm

Latest rear wheel conversion kit from Cyclotricity
I am relatively new to ebikes but my take on your question, is that if a manufacturer mentions anything about 250w it is by definition not road legal.

Hello everyone!!!
Hi Doc, I have just watched your kickstarter video. Interesting concept by tying into a heart rate monitor. Am i right in thinking that the lowest assist with be none? For example, if someone is very fit, and they are cycling along and want to be in their intensive HR zone, will the motor actually provide resistance ?

Newbie
Welcome bud, i am on the larger side myself(23st) and am expecting a woosh big bear ebike within the next few days. My main goal is to commute into work using the assist so i arrive dry(er), and then reduce the assist on the way home, so I get a good workout. Great news that you have lost 6 stone!. I would suggest that you take a look at sky rides, as far as i know, they have no limits on the type of bike on the ride, so you wont get anyone moaning that you are on an ebike.

Can you get a 48v controller that you can set a wattage limit on?
Thanks for clarifying guys. I would guess that its down to the amount of cells in parallel , which will determine what the max draw rate is. Poor(er) quality batteries, would provide less without damaging the underlying battery cell.

Just a thought but another factor in the the equation is the wattage that the battery is able to supply. If you exceed the batteries ratings, you could be in for a world of hurt. I am new to ebiking so could have missed a trick(or two)

Hi Bud, Firstly buy from amazon as you have a great customer service to fall back upon. Second, check anker, ive bought loads of their batteries, chargers etc, and cant fault them.

About to purchase Kalkhoff Agattu 8 - advice appreciated
ah thats a very interesting idea. You are the first person to mention lowering the maximum assist speed, rather than highering it!

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX
that is interesting, ebikes aside, i personally prefer to be a in lower gear with a higher cadence. With me waiting for my ebike to arrive, what impact does a high cadence/low gear have over a higher gear/lower cadence(bike i am getting(woosh big bear) has the motor in the front hub, so i guess is less likely to be impacted by cadence?)

Kenda tyres
Couldn't agree more, nothing worse than commuting into work, only to get a puncture , potentially arrive late, stressed out and covered in road gunk I have just ordered a woosh big bear and requested that marathon plus tyres are fitted, not cheap but worth it for the peace of mind.
