Dingle for the latest Boche hub drive
I don't know, I didn't write the diagnostics software. However apart from that, using a dongle (or even a dingle) that makes the ebike illegal is the buyer's responsibility and they need to be aware that the bike warranty is immediately invalid, that any accident they are involved in will put them at risk of legal action and might also set back the cause for everyone trying to promote and legislate for electric bikes in the UK and EU. Unlikely, but possible.

Dingle for the latest Boche hub drive
Yes, he will. If you ever take the bike to be serviced or repaired the Bosch diagnostics will pick up the use of the dongle and your warranty will be invalid.

Moustache eBikes - What do you think?
Thanks for the warning Frank, I've tried to find out how to be a trade member before but no luck. I've looked at the page you linked and I will be careful not to include any links to our website in the future, if we post on here again. And I wasn't trying to advertise our company particularly, just reply to the discussion with some actual information. Regards John

Moustache eBikes - What do you think?
We've been selling the moustache range for two years now and we're very happy with them. The quality is second to none, the amount of work that goes into their design and the passion that this company have for what they are doing is really different and, as is obvious from the comments here, makes them stand out from the (increasingly crowded) umm - crowd. They are a small independent company, run by some guys who come from the worlds of cycle design and competitive mountain biking. The 2014 range has some interesting innovations such as the MTB with 29" front and 27.5" rear wheel setup, which starts at £2599 and as you have noticed goes up to £4899 for the very top of the range "Gold" edition. This is far from being a mere fashion statement, the bikes have been designed to be used seriously offroad and have been thoroughly tested in the nearby Vosges mountains. The larger front wheel gives the benefits of a 29er with the increased torque and manoeuvrability of a 27.5" rear. Offroad use isn't for everyone, and we reckon they've been brave to introduce such a novel concept. Their 26" wheel MTB is still available too. They've introduced a variety of specifications for the new MTB range, which will be appearing on our website very soon. Other than that they are also introducing lightweight road bikes (18kg), an increased range of trekking bikes and some City bikes that show their dedication to innovative design, balance, rider comfort and precision build. For a very small company we think they are brave, clever and destined for great things. And as with any company producing innovative quality products they are never going to be everyone's cup of tea. But they're certainly not bland and are attracting a lot of interest. I hope that's useful. If anyone wants more information let us know or contact any Moustache dealer, they are hoping to enrol more throughout the UK before next year. Regards John Velospeed www.velospeed.co.uk ** Oh yes, why "moustache"? The handlebars on many models are bespoke designed and made, in a "moustache" shape. Incidentally this approach (design, not shape) is taken with other components such as mudguards which have been specially designed by the company - rather than using off the shelf products.

Hi Barclay Just checking back and I saw your post. I don't know if you got any further with your investigations, but we're currently the UK's only retailer of Moustache bikes. We're helping Moustache set up a UK dealer network so there shouldbe more outlets soon. If you want any more information just let us know. Regards John Velospeed

Looking for a fast road-legal pedelec / bike with pedelec upgrade
Hi Feanor Have you looked at bikes equipped with a NuVinci hub? There are quite a few of these available now, including the moustache range, which might be worth a look. As for replacing batteries, if you go for a reputable brand then they will still have replacements available for the foreseeable future. Hope you find something that fits the bill. Regards John

Hi, not a cyclist......
Hi, If you want to try the Batribike trike we have one in stock. We're just up the A34 and have sold plenty of Batribikes in your area. The Batribike is almost exactly the same as the Veliac but a tad cheaper (and silver)! Whatever you like the look of make sure you give it a good try out. Hope that helps! John Velospeed

Veliac Three - any views?
Ah no I can see you're in Cheshire! There may well be a Batribike dealer who has one of these much closer, you can find out from their website Where to Buy a Batribike Electric Bikes - Lincolnshire & across the UK BATRIBIKE Electric Bicycles Best regards John

Veliac Three - any views?
We're in West Berkshire, near Newbury/Reading - not far from the M4 & A34. Are you anywhere nearby?
-
Veliac Three - any views?
Hi Tom The Veliac Three is very similar to the Batribike trike that we have in stock. The tilting mechanism takes a little bit of getting used to but after half an hour or so it really makes cycling (tricling?) much easier. The Batribike also has a 36v 10amp battery and a throttle. My wife is much taken with it and its large rear basket and the ones we've sold have proved very popular. I'll try to attach a picture of it... I hope that's useful, let me know if you need more information. John Velospeed

NuVinci
Just to add to this thread, the moustache range of Bosch equipped bikes are available with the Nuvinci hub as an option. We find it adds some weight but this is more than made up for by the ease of use and simplicity that it brings. We've started selling these bikes in the UK and will be looking to recruit more dealers for the French company. Cheers John Velospeed

London to Brighton Charity ride
I'm up for it! But I'm not sure they will allow ebikes; I applied for the Alzheimer's London to Paris trip a couple of years ago but they wouldn't allow them on that. Otherwise it means hauling the old treader out of the shed and cleaning the spiders off.

Best £1000 cycle to work scheme
Our best sellers under the scheme are the Batribike Diamond and Granite, at £949. They're good dependable bikes and have a good level of equipment. Sadly Cyclescheme take a large chunk of the profit out of any sales Cheers John Velospeed

£2500 to spend - what would you choose?
I'd recommend anything from the moustache range, they're all powered by the Bosch motor and are (currently) available at under £2000. Of course, I would say that because we sell them but they're high spec, hand made, beautifully designed and just that little bit different. You can see them here moustache electric bikes and there's an A to B review of one model too. http://www.velospeed.co.uk/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=N2rXEmIxRN8%3d&tabid=80&language=en-US However you need to go and try out as many as possible because looking at specifications is no substitute for riding them and finding out how they feel for you. Cheers John

ebike needed for work comute
Well I think the Kudos secret is a great little bike if you're still thinking about a folder. Otherwise the Batribike Granite is very popular, and with good reason. There really are many options and your best bet is to get along to somewhere that has a good range and try them all out, 'cos choosing is a very personal thing and can depend on many factors...

E-bikes at Eurobike trade show
The battery is held within the box on the back, it slides out. All weatherproof and locked in place. And it's a 10 amp unit. The box is certainly not to everyone's taste and we hope that something may be done about that. However the bike is, we believe, lovely to ride, and we would be happy for anyone to come over and try one out. I haven't had the chance to try a Flyer, I'd love to though. John Velospeed

E-bikes at Eurobike trade show
It is a heavy bike, there's no way around that. But the specification says 26kg including the battery which is within the normal limits. A to B's 30.2 kg is way above that, so it looks like the bathroom scales will be needed here. I will report back on that. When riding it you can feel that it is a substantial, quality bike. It is well balanced and seems to glide along in an unruffled manner. Probably rather like driving a Bentley, not that I've ever done that - or am ever likely to get the chance. And I wouldn't recommend hoiking any electric bike over stiles, etc, unless you're a powerlifter. John Velospeed

E-bikes at Eurobike trade show
Hi Miles Here's what the manual says: “The motor drive of your ergo_bike pedelec is equipped with a high-quality two-level transmission, that lowers (demultiplies) the rotational speed of the powerful motor (up to 3700 RPM) to the pedalling speed range. This ensures you an easy start in most situations" Now, there is no detectable gear change that we can feel but there is full assistance available from the start. More details from daum themselves: "... a fixed reduction of the motor rpm to the pedal's rpm. Compared e.g. to the Panasonic motor the second stage is internal to keep away any dirt etc. from the internal pinion (-> more maintenance and service friendly)." There you go, I hope that helps. We haven't had the opportunity to take the drive apart yet but I am looking forward to doing that when we next go to the factory. John Velospeed

E-bikes at Eurobike trade show
We've not been around for very long, and have not had the opportunity to try every system (though we have seen the Bosch close up) but we reckon the Daum system can more than give the Panasonic a run for its money. And we sell bikes using both, so if anyone wants to try them out and see what we mean please do come on over. We also need help with a big tin of custard creams we're bravely working our way through. Which bike to choose??
Hi Jaycat, Another option for you would be the Ezee Liv or Ezee Sprint Eco from Onbike. They are a bit of a travel from you but they are very helpful and it would be well worth the trip, if you haven't decided already. Here's links to the bikes on their website: eZee Liv Electric Bike eZee Sprint Eco Electric Bike Bike Good luck! John velospeed

Which bike to choose??
[quote=jaycat;84589Veleospeed, I will have to ask my partner if we can make a trip to see you, she's just finishing off her dissertation at the mo, so time is limited, do you open Sundays? Hi Jaycat, We can open at any time, just give us a call if you can make it up here. If you want to discuss the bikes first then give me or Nick a call on 01635 579304 as there are a couple of different options depending on your preferences. Regards, John Velospeed
