New Electric Bike World Record Set!
I am flabbergasted Col that you are still pursuing this agenda vocally on the forum using the KTM official avatar / username. Have you had KTM/ permission to provide your personal opinions in their name of forums? It becomes a fine line to do so in the capacity of an employee. Forums in particular are hostile places for differing opinions so I do wonder whether it is in KTMs interest for you to be spewing this tirade consistently. It comes across now as venomous and petty. IF you do have concerns about illegality of ebikes and donglese etc then post informative information on one thread perhaps (without please having the sneaky attacks on un-named companies) or add such information clearly on KTM UK website / Facebook. Do it properly - consult with KTMs marketing people and I doubt very much they woukd be wanting you to be going hostile so often on public forum? Google ktm pedelec uk and you will come across heaps of threads, unconstructive and controversial ones, whereby KTM (you) come across very negatively to say the least. Not at all a good marketing strategy. you stated about the 'illegal' bike KTM make and are taking to the show: balloney. That bike is going there to a. Promote this category bike and dip your toes in the water and b. To attempt some negative marketing of your competition ironically by showing off what KTM would love to sell in UK. how much pressure is KTM hq putting on you to sell these in UK and would you ever sell them as law stands Col? what if KTM tell you to sell them in UK? Have they? That would put you in a very awkward spot. Hence the comment about personal opinions on a forum. Why not just ask Martin via pm / email how they got authority etc to use bikes on the route? Still, a marketing campaign by e-bikeshop that supported a good cause is usually more effective than a negative slating of it by a competitor, as you have done in KTMs guise. So.. Well done e-bikeshop, Martin and Mat. I will be contributing once I wake up properly. suffering from Norovirus!!! In meantime could you provide the links for payment? Oh.. And I will aim to do a review for you of my new Haibike Trekking 2015 also. It is beautiful and so much fun to ride!

Man United Thrashed By MK Dons
Ohh. I hardly ever venture in the chat place because there is hardly any ffwti talk.. I must admit MKDons aka Wimbledon played extremelY well and score should have been 6-0 at least. I think some teams will be poaching their goal scorers in January transfer market?

Bosch bearings
Here's a ktm... Good luck if it breaks down Somebody will need the atm As for anything Bosch we'll just frown I really think it is becoming quite transparant on these forums that KTM provide hardly bugger all service to anybody other than sales. Pass the buck attitude. Sorry Col, nothing personal but it comes across like that regardless of my opinion and personal experiences with KTM UK. (I really sympathise with the poor traders here and the poor consumers who buy KTMs when they find themselves with issues). KTM bikes are great bikes. They get publicised here by KTM uk officially but when it comes to the crunch it is all bluster, wind and bugger all end assistance it seems. Ps.. Will the KTM Uk contract need to be re- negotiated for a newly independent Scotland or is it up for grabs??

Any Interesting News from Eurobike 2014
Bad news that from Bosch... Thanks for the update. What does Yamaha do then differently for UK seeing how they now do crank motors and trying to compete with Bosch.

Liability....
Wouldn't it have been wiser to have emailed the businesses you have referred to rather than expect them to respond on a forum? They would be mad to in my opinion.

Liability....
Don't KTM have lawyers they can ask for clarification? i don't understand why you worry so much about ypur competitors It does come across as if you are using the 'dongle' or S class issue as an excuse to slate your competition? Not saying you are doing this but it gives that impression. Perhaps they are using a bit of entrepreneurial spirit to provide a market for dongles but so are people in Germany and on ebay etc. There seems to be a growth market for the S pedelecs here (am I right?) and I was wondering if KTMs uK strategy was being reconsidered because of this niche market and a fear of falling behind the competition?

Bosch Classic Motor - unused dongle for sale
I bought this dongle for my pedelec over a year ago now but never used, never fitted. Been in drawer ever since. I did not have the knowledge to fit it or even understand the instructions (sorry Martin!) so here it is.. The wirey do something inside motor and go faster thing! instruction also included. These sell for new £150 but as my VW camoer has seriously failed its MOT and I need to start saving for the restoration I just signed off on (argh!!) then it has to be sold. if no interest over next few days I will put it on ebay but will post here if that is done. £75 incl postage or you can pay more if you want Also for sale is a kettenschutzblech for the Bosch motoren., ie chain guard thing for classic motor to stop it coming off? That came from Germany very recently but it goes also. £15 incl postage paypal preferred because they don't know what banks are over here!

100% waterproof bike cover
Awol.. That does look more sturdy. Have ordered although no idea if a large will be too big or cover too heavy / bulky compared to my Oxford one (the fly away one!)

How many miles have you done on your Bosch powered bike?
How do you get the total? Have pressed reset many times thinking rhis only cancelled for trip. Mine would not be accurate as I have had two intuiva headset things but I probably have done 1500 miles.... No idea actually.

100% waterproof bike cover
I used this one.... http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Oxford-Aquatex-Bicycle-Cover_60207.htm?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=AdwordsProductAds&utm_campaign=Adwords&gclid=CJbj7dXFp8ACFSX4wgoduDEAcQ On my second one now because I didn't tie it down during hurricane winds last winter. it covers my panniers and does the job although thin and fragilish if it tears somehow (not done so yet) and have been using it all through last year when at work in Snowdonia. May be cheaper on Amazon etc.. Not checked soz.

i agree with you about being allowed easy access to parts (dealer or customer). The restrictions and barriers for these component parts are becoming so restrictive it seems that it will have a detrimental effect on an actual bike brand itself? With what seems like a clear growth in the supply if these expensive bikes there needs to be some serious consideration within the UK by bike manufacturers (not component manufacturers) to ensuring there is an integral system setup which is much better than exists at present. Also a revamp of the warranty system for pedelecs would be a good idea using input from both dealers and customers and such like. it needs to be looked and improvements made for sure. Whether these brands will see their warranties as simply a legal piece of paper rather than an opportunity to provide exceptional customer service other other brands remains to be seen. The opportunity is there for a brand such as KTM to take the lead and even use any such improvements as a usp. It would allow for them to set the benchmark for a proper and purposeful warranty system and a decent working dealer support network for all KTM bikes.

those reminders of legal redress are always useful for those who may not be aware. I don't get the impression that this is the issue in these cases. Personally I am aware of all of those laws and regulations. the crux is the lack of support given to dealers through no fault of their own. The customer wants bike repaired, the dealer wants bike repaired and relations are extremely amicable but the parts are never there for the dealer or obstacles put in their way. This would have nothing to do with legal redress. Just two parties who want a job done but with the component parts manufacturers being the issue. Also.. A time may be quoted to the dealer by component manufacturer but then this timeframe continually changes and different information given at different times by different people in these companies. Also I note we have yet to note any dealer volunteering and noting that they would undertake repairs on say a Bosch pedelec if it was a. Not bought from them or b. Out of warranty. Although Col at KTm says this is what he expects there have been none on the forum saying they would, despite what Col says. Does anybody know of any KTM dealer who takes in repairs for say hubs or Bosch motor / parts if the bike was not bought off them for a and b scenario?

Perhaps these Pedelec warranties whould have x miles on them also and not just time?
-
Bosch bearings
On the dongle issue perhaps Bosch may be referring to the original dongles that needed to be fitted inside the motor somehow? There are now ones that do not fit inside I believe and need no tampering with the motor. I can understand Bosch invalidating warranty though in such cases although if they are doing exactly the same as the S oedelecs to same engine (technical stuff) then all Bosch are doing is protecting one class of more expensive pedelecs over cheaper ones I suppose and their features (bit like SLR cameras of the day.. Cheaper but identical model just had features disabled but they were still there!)

Bosch bearings
I think that is one of the main issues but not only Bosch. the other component manufacturers that are part of the bike's various warranty claim to be are also an issue. the time that they also take to even process items that reach them and the hassle and unecessary time to contact the relevant departments means that it is not just a Bosch issue. KTM need to do regular checks on lead times for the parts manufacturers they use for their bikes and check the dealers' concerns with such manufacturers rather than leave it all to the dealers. Does KTM review its own performance (including its chosen component manufacturers? ) by requesting regular feedback from them of their views for example rather than wait for issues to arise?

Bosch bearings
And I think that is the problem we have.. Dealers / seller will only want to, if at all, deal with their own bikes' issues. There will be a definite growth market in servicing / fixing all these Bosch pedelecs .. Especially after 2 years is up. I know the Kalkhoffs seem to be selling well second hand after 2-5 years and with decent prices still for second hand bikes. Will same be said of Bosch motored pedelecs after 2 years? Is it not in the next year or two that we start to see much more second hand ones on the market?

Bosch bearings
And the communication issue are not KTM Col but the manufacturers eg SRAM.

Bosch bearings
Perhaps Col misunderstood me. I cannot possibly express my satisfaction with electrifying cycles in Words eloquent enough (unless in Welsh ). They have been, and continue to be amazing, flexible, helpful beyound what is expected of a dealer. The relationship there is exeptional ther and in no way was I implying there was an issue with the dealer. the issue is the time it takes for dealers to get the support they need and the parts they need through no fault of their own. i just feel for them to be honest.

Bosch bearings
The Bosch website links to leadtime for parts usually being 2-3 days (Col's link) but this is from cloud cuckoo land in my experience. A spare calssic motor took 4 weeks .. Or was it 6 actually?
-
Bosch bearings
pehaps Col could ask his dealers how many would arrange repairs if a bike is out of warranty etc? I can actually appreciate why dealers would not want to do this based on issues to do with poor communication, lack of spares, lead-time to simply processing a fault prior to possible resolution and the excess time for relevant parts to simply be manufactured. I dread to think what the responses by these manufacturers would be if the part was out of warranty... Ignore or drop down the queue big time I suppose. Also the added complication of simply getting a quote from them for fixing.. Now that would add more delay and confusion I would imagine....? I can appreciate Col saying how such things should not complicate matters but from experience it is nigh on impossible for dealers to get things done at a reasonable pace due to these manufacturers' present system of support. the KTM bikes are advertised as being fantastic, as is the warranty, but really the warranty is with a multitude of companies and KTM don't really care it seems when it comes to the crunch. up to the dealers. up to the manufaturers. BUT such poor support for dealers to resolve issues will only lead to KTMs brand being associated with comoanies who do not have parts in stock, do not even deal with request for over a fortnight or simply so difficult to get in touch with? I am not going to get into the particulars on my KTM issues (we would be here for weeks) but it has to be said that I am of the view that the support given to dealers by these parts manufacturers is pretty low and feel that KTM should be more involved and held accountable for their failures rather than pass the buck to either dealers or manufacturers. It seems as if KTM don't care if their bikes fail or parts for them take weeks or months? It may be unfair that KTM is taking all this flack (sorry Col) but I am going from my experience and there are no other Bosch type bike makers on forum that ai am aware of?
-
Bosch bearings
I understand (plenty of experience) about the warranty side and payment blah but I am aware a few questions have been asked over time on this forum attempting to get the answer to that simple question of whether dealers would arrange to get non warranty issues (Bosch) fixed but responses always got diverted (as it was a bit earlier) to benefits of buying from a dealer, should not have bought from abroad or not actually answered. now it is answered at last!
-
Bosch bearings
So , being specific, am i right that you (Col) agree that it is reasonable to expect dealers of KTM pedelecs to arrange that a KTM pedelec is fixed (Bosch motor for example) outside the warranty period?
-
Bosch bearings
But what if the bike is out of warranty Col? What then? You say take it back to the dealer...? What if dealer only says they only sort things out if under warranty? What if the dealer is far away? What if you want a quote? How do you get stuff like Bosch fixed if there is no warranty left? Are you also saying it is basically not possible to fix a Bosch problem on a KTM bike if out of warranty or if no dealer (for whatever reason.. !)?

Bosch bearings
Mine was an issue moving at all rather than having some play. Perhaps the brand sellers would be able to answer better rather than dealers? Ie KTM perhaps could clarify what is / isn't covered... Col anywhere? Also I would like to ask somebody like Col what would a buyer have to do to get a part fixed a. Under warranty or b. no warranty left if there was no dealer eg second hand bike, overseas buy, ebay etc? Bosch and SRAM etc don't seem to deal with Joe Bloggs. So how woukd you get parts fixed for a KTM in such circumstances.. Or does KTM and such manufacturers not care / get involved because the part needing fixing is not their responsibility?
