Redbridge 2014,May 18,afternoon

Featured Replies

John, these events dont need to cost a fortune,as Hatti has realised Redbridge is not expensive, the Manifold Trail event in Derbyshire cost nothing for the venue...but they are hard work and its difficult to market them economically. Also bicycle customers sometimes wont or cannot travel far.

If every supplier put on one event per year to their own customer base, irrespective as to whether they invite other suppliers,it would make a big difference to making e-bikes accessible to the UK people....but to my knowledge it is rare and that is one reason why the ebike market in the UK is growing very slowly.

We all need to be more proactive,I havent had a weekend off in 10 weeks and having just come back from China.I am exhibiting at the National Kit Car show, this weekend.....we will have a small display of ebikes at that show.

Weekend? What's a weekend:confused:

Weekend? What's a weekend:confused:

It's the period between 00.01 on the 1st January and 24.00 on the 31st December in any year.

For me anyway. :p

.

There were also probably a lot of recommendations from people that rode the bikes that resulted in sales later.

Liking the word 'probably' is just not good enough we need to hear something that is more definite that sales did increase. We need facts.

MS.

How did the show go that was up your way?

KudosDave

Amazing for a normal bike show and probably our best ever event. David from FreeGo Wisper was there as well as Andreas from Momentum but I am sure they would say the same as well! Location was great in city centre and yes we had a good hill but it is too narrow so not enough room to turn, that was the only negative.

Excellent interest did not hear one comment of cheat plus I nearly took down Ex World Champion Graham Obree when we both rode a tandem together :)

Excellent - I'll be popping down and having a go. Is there somewhere I can strip down out of my leathers and put my gear somewhere safe? as I'll be coming down on my motorcycle.
Hi Wicky, I'm sure they have changing rooms in the Centre by the track, you'll be able to leave your 'stuff' with us on the stand if there are no lockers, look forward to seeing you.

Koga have just advised they will also have a stand at Redbridge,Koga is being considered for sale at LEBC,their range is very high quality, long established bike manufacturer.

Wicky, there is an excellent changing room at Redbridge...you will have no problem storing your leathers.

Just loaded up the van, forgotten how many bike styles there are in the Kudos range....we have an example of every style for testing.

Maybe some deals if you want to do the deal on the day.

Ta for that - I can strip to the comfort of my kecks to enjoy the sunshine :-)

  1. I rode a Koga E-Special 'tuther day. Was I impressed; I did not want to go to far, I might have wanted one. Very comfortable, powerful and it went well plus it had a reverse. Don't get many of them these days. Very nice.

I have ridden the E-Special too and a couple of other Kogas. They really are beautifully engineered bikes and that Ion DD motor has all the power most people might need. They are one of few high-end bikes that I think worth the money.

Thanks to all who attended Redbridge. Once again we were so lucky with a beautiful afternoon's weather. It was nice to meet so many Pedelecs members both mature (in pedelecs terms, not age) and some newbies.

I estimate about 50 testers came throughout the afternoon.

It's a shame that such a wonderful venue for testing bikes could not be attached to another show,it's still the best circuit for bike or electric bike testing.

Of particular note was that many testers are now looking at their second or third electric bike,so the spread of interest was more into the higher priced bikes, the Panasonic hub drives and Kudos 29er's being of particular interest.

Thanks

KudosDave

I must echo KudosDaves post above, a great afternoon and really nice to meet some of you. It really is a great venue for testing ebikes. Thanks again for all that attended.
Ditto.... great venue, an ideal place to try out bikes... my money's on the KTM e Race P... could not resist, see you next week Tom!
Thank you guys from Leecy Bike Co. for the time and effort putting on the day and availing us of the the bikes for a thrash round the circuit. Will add more tomorrow as stiff and heading for a bath not from cycling! but from fielding in a cricket game when I got home.

Continuing from yesterday - it was a grand day out with Redbride easy to get to. With my experience of late on conventional Giant Escape 2 hybird for the past three years covering a couple of thousand miles with the only demo of a pedelec limited from a local Giant retailer to an uninspiring Giant Twist step through limited to a up and down a flat road.

The guys running the show were most helpful and had a good eye for sales. Impressions of the bikes are a bit of a blur matching the downhill speeds of the first hill drop of the racing circuit, and the variety of bikes up for grabs. Due to the nature of the course found the 29er models more inspiring due to the speeds from that initial drop. Another factor of the course was the differing gearing offered by each bike and the relatively rapid hunt for the right gear in quick succession on each part of the course for each different bike. Generally the crank drives were easier to get round than the the hub ones with the 3 sprockets up front - This is where the Eiger excelled with the simpler to get to grips with NuVinci hubs gears but with the grunt on offer there was some room for error on all bikes. All the Kudos range looked very smart with their street sleeper Mountain bike looks and all conquered the testing return leg back up the steep hill with ease, along with a lap round the trail sections.

The KTMs (eRace P 27.5 and Macina Action 29) came along later and both seemed better set up as they already seemed to have a few miles under their demo belts (Some of the Kudos bikes still has plastic wrappings on) and I must admit the KTMs weher by nature or ran in a bit more/set up previosl, were a step above and performed admirably with what ever I threw at them on the track and off road. Within a short time the eRace P demo had been sold so I was glad to have the opportunity to get a go.

A surprise was a Haibike full suspension model (forget which one but it was apparently the cooking model - but still with a boys toys lego tecnic look) I had a lap or two but it came up with an error so reset it on the fly - it still got round the course without seeming to miss a beat but handing it back to pitstop guys they sadly diagnosed a flat battery and a missing magnet which meant it was grounded for the rest of the day:-(

All in all a great day - a felt like a kid in an pedelec sweetshop with no need to fear any slopes or check the direction of the breeze - Each bike I tried would handle what I need which is 20-30 mile mixed bag of terrain (approx 60-80% road rest cyclepath/trail) but as I had already grabbed the arm of Col at Fli on Friday for the bargain KTM eRace 29 P demo my mind was made up and Tues I become orange, black and bionic.
