October 3, 20169 yr Hi, I am looking to pimp my 5yr old peg perego truck, it currently has 12v sla. I am looking to change to Li and need help for you to recommend who can make custom 18v battery and bms to fit in existing spot. height 4.5 inch / length 6 inch / width 4 inch Thank you all in advance Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
October 3, 20169 yr Insat international/ London will make a bespoke battery for you, they come very highly rated. Contact details in this link; http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/posts/332237/
October 3, 20169 yr Why bother with a custom battery? You can use a standard 5S 18v lipo from Hobbyking, which will cost next to nothing. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=26713
October 4, 20169 yr can you find a ready made lipo solution (with built in alarm and charger)? This has been trotting around my brain for a while, my conclusions: 1. only works for an "advanced" user, charging is simple but not plug and forget nor plug and play 2. a BMS or a controller with LVC set to 36.5 V (for someone using a 36 V controller) is a better idea than an alarm 3. a decent charger costs substantially more than a Li-ion charger
October 4, 20169 yr Author I haven't found a simple plug and play Having looked at the hobbyking option I would need to join a few together as I would like at least 10ah. Is charging this easy? Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
October 4, 20169 yr li-on cylindrical cells comes in a hard case outer shell with BMS and can be charged with most cheapish chargers available, plug and play and plug and leave charging, can be left to monitor it self takes several hours to charge. In use they are self monitored with integral BMS to cut power when LVC is reached. Li-po soft polymer chemistry pouch cells come unprotected, packs in most cases with a shrink wrap to contain fragile cells. However HK do sell some 5s hard case packs. Cells need watching/checking during charging they are less stable then li-on as they have no BMS. Possibilty of fire is drained to much, over charged, dropped and damaged and definitely will catch fire if connected wrong. Not a plug and leave solution when charging unless done out side. Advantages can be charged in an hour or two. Needs a specific charger can be got cheaply. In use needs back up monitoring as no BMS is used, this can be small alarms connected to the jst leads to monitor each cell or a watt meter to monitor whole pack voltage.
October 4, 20169 yr Author Thanks for all your help As for 5yr old I favour the safe approach. And plug and play recharging Average 18a and peak 30. Thanks again Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk

If you want to be really clever, use your ebike battery and a 10 amp brushed motor controller that you can get from Ebay for about £6.
