January 24, 20188 yr Author Started getting a few parts arrive now. Is this PAS sensor the wrong type ? I assume it is for square bottom brackets. Do I order a different one for Octalink or trim this one to fit?
January 24, 20188 yr The V6/12 isn't usually suitable for Octalink or Holltech/Gxp. You can try as long as there is enough axle length left for the crank to tighten on to properly, if so you need to shorten them splines on the V6 so that they get a bite on the axle to rotate. If not you need the std 10 or 12 poles sensor like this one. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-Top-Quality-Electric-Bicycle-Pedel-Assist-Sensor-E-bike-PAS-system-12-Magnet-Speed/32346552721.html?spm=2114.search0204.3.1.4fee64e8HlYowH&s=p&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_3_5920015_10065_10344_10068_10130_10324_10342_10547_10325_10343_10340_10548_10341_10192_10190_10084_10617_10616_10083_10618_10615_10307_10301_10303_10313_10059_10184_10534_100031_10103_441_10624_442_10623_10622_10621_10620_10142,searchweb201603_6,ppcSwitch_2_ppcChannel&priceBeautifyAB=4 The sensor clamps behind the outer bearing casing/nut and the mag ring is carefully drilled out to fit comfortably over the outer bearing then you affix to the chain ring
January 24, 20188 yr Author So the one you mentioned fits to the drive side and not as this one I have? I managed to trim down the splines and get it to fit on ok, but as you say there is not enough room for it and the axle cannot tighten down fully. In the bin with that one ! Anywhere in the uk for one I need as I don't want to wait another month for a sensor !
January 24, 20188 yr You can fit it to both sides, you need to secure the disc so that is spins with axle. The issue is if there is any gap between crank arm and bearing face. Behind the crank set is an easier place to hide it, screw, epoxy or zip tie the disc to the crank ring. DAS kit in Germany sell a specific Octalink/Hollowtech pas sensor but want £50 odd for it. Ebay or Amazon.
January 24, 20188 yr Put it in your spares bin even if you can't use the sensor the Julet and wiring may come in handy one day for extending or adapting another bit of kit.
January 24, 20188 yr Yours for £53.20 delivered . https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hollowtech-Octalink-Conversion-Kit-installation/dp/B01J1LO9D2
January 24, 20188 yr Author Shocking price! As I paid $3 for the last one... Any good eBay sellers you guys recommend. A link to a suitable sensor would be great.. Old one in spares bin.
January 24, 20188 yr 8 poles will be ok. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pedelec-Sensor-PAS-Pedal-Assistant-Sensor-for-Electric-Bicycle-8-Magnet/152830429673?hash=item23956749e9:g:50kAAOSwSrNaNN6c Or forum member Daniel has a ebay site below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Electric-Bike-12-Magnet-Pas-Pedal-Assist-Sensor-Cadence-Speed-Ebike/813781908?iid=272483488897&_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49895%26meid%3Dd3b06e1932dd40d084fe8d2c08236bd2%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D152830429673&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
January 24, 20188 yr Author Thanks. I go for the first and the second is 3times the price. I will also order a better one from Ali E for a spare..
January 25, 20188 yr 8 poles will be ok. But start-up is smoother with 12... A chainwheel adaptor is easy to make from all kinds of stuff the best being one you 3D print. My PAS disk is currently mounted on the left attached to the bottom of a coffee can cut to fit.
January 25, 20188 yr Author Wheel built. I have put it into the dropouts but it will not turn ! I am sure I am doing something wrong and basic but cant see what it is. If I turn the rim, the whole thing tries to tun in the dropouts. It is as if there is no bearing and the whole central motor is solid and feels locked and will not budge.. Please someone put me out of my basic misery !!! Edited January 25, 20188 yr by Neil5403
January 25, 20188 yr Author Well I connected it all up to the battery etc in case it just needed connecting to 'unlock' it. Still locked solid. Will not turn. Any ideas ?
