December 13, 20223 yr personally I feel that some folks are deluded if they think prices will fall, ever. It took 9 years for Russia to admit defeat and retreat from Afganistan, fighting a population with little to no infrastucture to begin with - for them, the difference in living standards between pre-war and war wasn't as stark. Alternative energy and food supplies will take some years to develop - it'll be a long haul for sure. As always, there is a highly resistant to change, very aggressive select group of useful idiots elite fighting sub-cult being nurtured and trained in Ukraine, which will become capable of little else but continuous war, and I wonder what havoc they'll wreak in the west, when some are eventually abandoned? December 13, 20223 yr Alternative energy and food supplies Which on the face of it are being purposely eroded, look at Netherlands (farms) & until recent the banning of new onshore wind (UK) - New forms of Nuclear are too far away imo for making any headway in this crisis of crisis, a perfect opportunity to sneak in CBDC you only have to look a Nigeria, because a new increase in the money supply, some free CBDC & more spending is just what we need around now.
December 13, 20223 yr Also a fire risk. Sell it. I dry till dry-ish on a rack in the kitchen, and finish off on the radiators. I was pre-diabetic before I lost weight, still might be a bit, as I do still feel the cold... but a hot water bottle under my feet keeps me from worrying about my toes turning black and falling off, a duvet cover containing a duvet and space blanket keeps my legs and up to upper body warm, and an 45W electric blanket on the back of the office chair/armchair/sofa/bed and a woolly hat does the rest, until I must use a central heating blast or three. Merino wool thermal undergarments are the mutt's nuts. Like I said, I'm making an effort this year... I bet that lot makes riding a bike difficult.
December 13, 20223 yr I bet that lot makes riding a bike difficult. Thanks That gave me a laugh and spawned an idea, which Nealh has helped solve the problem of chilly garden/cycling feet and cramping calf muscles https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/is-it-safe-to-connect-a-40w-elecric-blanket-to-my-ebike-battery.44594/#post-669320
December 13, 20223 yr Just received and email from Shell energy and my energy prices are going up from Jan 1 , the only change is a small one. Electricity kwh price rises from 35.314p to 35.400p. Still not very good news considering the oscene profits they are making. Edited December 13, 20223 yr by Nealh
December 13, 20223 yr Just received and email from Shell energy and my energy prices are going up 99.9 from Jan 1 , the only change is a small one. Electricity kwh price rises from 35.314p to 35.400p. Do they charge you that for all of your units, or do they charge a higher rate for the first X units of each day, followed by 35.400p for the rest of the day? Mine's simply flat rate and high. My Bulb prices pending completing their move into Oxygen have been identical to yours, 35.314p per all units 42.678p per day standing charge so I may be getting an adjustment soon too. If so, it will confirm that some of the companies have been working together like a cartel. .
December 13, 20223 yr If I had a dual rate where the night time rate was about 10p , I would have by now installed 14kwh of EVE LFP's and inverter to run white goods off during the day.

We knew or were waiitng to here the outcome of new rate increases from Jan 1 , so for the short term prices are or may appear to be as they were.

With it being just after Christmas, all the unrest at present and it being the cold weather peak, they may be holding off the really big increase until the planned April 1st rise. The weather should be milder then so less likely to cause as much harm. .
December 13, 20223 yr Still not very good news considering the oscene profits they are making. And the gov price cap - mine will go up 1% ish and taken as a year pay on receipt of bill will go up £260 - Ludacris out stripping prepay as most expensive!
December 13, 20223 yr elecy (dryer uses a lot) £6.00 per day. Pardon my curiosity, but how many Kw/h does your meter show you using per day? Edited December 13, 20223 yr by guerney

December 14, 20223 yr how many Kw/h does your meter show you using per day? I will try and fathom that & get back to you.
December 14, 20223 yr I will try and fathom that & get back to you. Yes please do, because you can't possibly be using 12.2kwh a day (at my unit rate, and zero standing charge assumed). They must be shafting you some way or other? Or more than usual. Edited December 14, 20223 yr by guerney

Just received the same notificationfrom Bulb, who of course will be merging into Octopus: "We're increasing our electricity unit rate from 35.314p to 35.400p per kWh and we're keeping our electricity standing charge the same at 42.678p per day." So many of them are operating as a cartel, sort of industry standard prices. Plus this: Just to warn you, we're expecting prices to increase in April On 1 April the government's Energy Price Guarantee will be increasing to an average of £3,000 per year, which is £500 more per year for a typical household. . December 14, 20223 yr Yes please do May have to pause on that for a few days, as my washer decided to have a door malfunction so I won't be using the dryer much more than a few towels a day. However I will take pics of the reading from today to compare normal daily dryer and min dryer usage. I assume this is the reading we are looking at, to confirm... 9:30 am so I take another tomorrow

9:30 am so I take another tomorrow Looking at plotted spikes on a spreadsheet line graph, is a good way to alarm oneself. All of my meter readings going back years, are on a spreadsheet.
December 15, 20223 yr PC2017 - what your household needs, are a couple of 40W GuerneyWarmerator™ Lites, which you could purchase and assemble after selling your tumble dryer. Available now, in all bad shops. Your toes will never be cold ever again...
December 15, 20223 yr I was a tad busy today and forgot the reading but will try harder tomorrow - but working it out. with my other half not working atm - 2xPC one on 16hrs and mine 6hrs, GPU usage for 2 hours each gaming then netflix etc. Dryer 3x loads a day, oven 1-2x a day, fridge small freezer, heating 7hrs+ constant due to low heat retention, lights etc I would say £5.50 per day + stnding charge is about right, Summer different story I only watch netfilx at night & dryer on the line.
December 15, 20223 yr my washer decided to have a door malfunction Microswitch or dirt in the door catch mechanism possibly - a couple of slams clears that error on my washer, it hasn't been the microswitch yet, and I've kept my cheapo Haier washer working from new since 2008.
December 15, 20223 yr Haier washer working from new since 2008 I got a decent indesit & pay £4.00 per month for a warranty, I get that back in call outs and parts, the darn thing keeps packing up every 4-6 months, although this is the first time the doors faulted, they still won't give me a voucher for a new washer - I got it in 2015. The warranty has been worth it tbf it's the same washer but it had 3 new drums, 2 new heating elements, one door seal & one blockage cleared, kind of sounds like Triggers broom he had for years.
