Compatible replacement for BMS (Greenway LP0005) 36v.

Featured Replies

I'm hoping someone can help, i've been trying for 2 weeks now to locate the above without success and am starting to look for ways to adapt a more common board. The battery is a Reention Dorado 36v 11.5 Ampere hour. My BMS has 4 "larger" wire connections rather than 3 - i.e. C-, P-, B-and B+. It has smaller wires also for voltmeter etc but main concern is how to connect the B+ which is missing from most BMS boards. I think I can piggyback into one of the multiplug connections but the current carrying capacity of this connector doesn't look man enough for the job.

Any help with a solution even if a compromise would be very welcome.

In the absence of any replies i've swotted up myself and decided to adapt a popular alternative. For anyone else doing this, an older battery pack might have the same set-up as mine in that it includes a stout red wire soldered to B+ on the BMS board. It turns out this is just a convenient solder-able junction place on mine, and all modern boards dispense with this, and link the + charger connector directly to the battery pack positive soldered tab. I will probably add a lead here for my voltmeter also. The dimensions are almost the same so fingers crossed that it all works out. The Kapton tape and hot glue gun have worked out just as expensive as the BMS unit.

As the whole exercise could have just been an expensive time-consuming mistake, I plumped for a cheap unit with the best reviews. Only fitted around a week ago with the most intricate and intensive soldering i've done since my slot racing days, and then totally surprised myself to find that the battery pack performs completely as it should, so very pleased. My first mystery was that the charger showed a green light on first connecting up after fitting BMS, which I took to mean that the work was a failure but it turned out that the batteries were "brimmed" from charging many months earlier by the previous owner which certainly spoke well for the state of the cells. Corrosion due to storage was the enemy here, and so I didn't risk hooking up ancilliary boards/circuits for voltmeter or UPS connections in case these were damaged. As mentioned in last post, I followed a hunch with the "B+" connection on the BMS board that mine came with :- this looks to be a convenient "junction" connection housed within the board which appears to be it's sole purpose so I merely joined and insulated the two (red) wires housed there. Re-fitting the cells and wiring back in the aluminium "Dorado" extrusion proved time-consuming, as everything only just fits, which in one way is good in that little or no chafing might result from inevitable jostling and vibration in use.

The doesn't make sense. You had a problem, you found a solution and you described how to implement the solution. Anybody, who has the same problem, can now come here and see what to do. It's everybody's duty to provide information, otherwise there would be nothing to gain by visiting any forum for anything.

Someone could have added a thumbs up to acknowledge your posts perhaps? If a member then and if i caught your posts i may have done so,, but ive only been here a couple of years..

seemed like you had a successful result so 'thumbs up!'

Looking at the thread, he may be cross because he didn't get any answers when he asked about his battery.

Looking at the generality of queries, there are usually lots of responses, so his experience may not be that common.

The reason the bad loser didn't get any replies is because no pictures were supplied for anyone to see. A picture often say's a lot more then text alone.

I for one get fed up with asking folks to provide pics .

Wow, after you with the milk mate.

To start with - the questions asked didn't need pictures if you care to read again, but besides this, anyone who really wanted to help would still have asked for pictures anyway, regardless of how many times they'd asked previously.

A second point - is there any need for name calling? did i call anyone anything?

As far as helping this Forum grow or gain in popularity* you are just digging a hole for yourself.

* I think you have made it clear that you have no interest in doing this.

Makes perfect sense - there was almost a month between first and second post, and as the larbox said, what's wrong with a "thumbs up" additionally anyway? - it's just not a friendly Forum by the looks of things.

Thank you, thelarkbox - your reply and making a friendly gesture is the only reason i will pop in again in the future - Thank Goodness! a human being! :)

Its more caution than unfriendliness when it comes to batteries, catch me in the pub and i will waffle on happily, however instruct an unknown person how to practically burn down their house.. apart from being totally unqualified to do so personally, folk balk at putting such things down on the record ;)

BMS systems especially are a nightmare due to proprietary f/w designed to limit your upgrade/service options and its a whole can of worms to open on someone unaware. so if in that catagory a top job replacing your bms with a fully featured generic brand would still result in failure..

Tho you seem to have done sufficient homework to arrive there yourself by your last post in 22 ;)

If you have the time it might be worth hanging around a bit in here and contributing to the notices of new developments and other current less specifically technical topics.. ( unless you are qualified and/or have something of value/interest to say..)

The main focus can be keeping ebikes on the rd, but we can be pleasant while at it still..

I'm well known for NOT putting this into practise, but coming over with a sh itty attitude is not that likely to work.

There are people here like saneagle and Neil and Matthewslack and a lot of others who spend a lot of time helping a lot of people, and some of them have literally massive experience, at least one having run a technical e-bike department for a supplier. The experience is deep and well founded.

They spend time helping people purely out of altruism.

Nobody is entitled to their help, it is given.

To be honest, your attitude here comes over as entitled and petty. Somehow your request got missed. Maybe people were on holiday, some of them have been ill in hospital. Who knows why nobody responded. I don't have a clue, but I would suggest you go and have a nice cup of tea and calm down. Having a tantrum won't get you any help and you might need it in future. I say this when others would be more tactful, because I don't care - if it seems true to me, I say it.

If next time we see you things are different, that would be good.

This is just my own view. I have no standing here whatsoever, except as an awkward, rude, old sod. These are MY views and are not those of the forum.

i think you summed yourself up perfectly when you said an "awkward, rude, old sod".

I did not come over with a shitty attitude, i just posted what i felt as a true reflection of what had happened* - someone who starts name calling describing me as a "bad loser" i s the one with the "shitty" attitude, and ridiculing another member openly, to be endorsed by two others in a mocking manner is a "shitty" attitude.

Please, keep on going if you want to escalate this - you are not a moderator on here, and it takes a moderator to say the sort of things you have said above with any kind of clout. I stand by what i have said and your above description just confirms what i was thinking.

*you are entitiled to your opinion if you think this is "petty" but i think you will be in the minority.

" I have no standing here whatsoever,"

i agree, and you seemed to be throwing a lot of weight around for someone who has been on here less than 4 months..

The site has no moderators , people aren't molly coddled .

Don't like it go elsewhere.

i'm sure the site owner would intervene if he thought it necessary Tuesday.

EDIT - gone one better and put you on ignore. (thumbs up)

So you just put one of the most helpful people in the premier rank of the forum's most experienced ebike builders and battery builders on ignore because he didn't stroke your head and sympathise, when after 18 month's of absence from posting anything, you turned up with this remark:

"revisiting in November 2025, i can't think of any reason for recommending this Forum to anyone when it comes to E-bike/battery help!? - over and out..."

And you seem to think the owners will rebuke such a poster?

Massive lack of insight, I fear.

I very much suspect thelarkbox's computer controlled home brew contraptions and consumption of resulting mysterious concoctions we know not what of, aid the friendliness factor. I on the other hand, am a mean drunk. Renowned for it in fact. Ask my neighbours, the ones I haven't yet buried under the M6.

i'm sure the site owner would intervene if he thought it necessary Tuesday.

It might be better if you put us all on ignore. You don't come across as the sort of guy that I'd like to help in the future anyway, so you won't lose much.

..I think that you are slightly deranged and have actually lost the plot here. if anyone is throwing a tantrum, then it's you. The comment that you included above in the form of a quote was a generalisation, and simply stated an observation, wasn't offensive, and it wasn't aimed at anyone. "Neil H "had had no involvement with me up to this point, and so for him to call me a "bad loser" is the only reason he got my attention and so your linking him with me as regards "stroking on the head and sympathy" has no bearing on anything whatsoever, surely you can see that or are you normally this delusional? You seem to think that someone who is extremely knowledgeable is immune when it comes to calling people names, and that it's perfectly acceptable? - it isn't.

However, I can see that you want his babies and I hope that the two of you are very happy, but my advice to you is to Sierra Tango F*xtr*t Uniform Mr Newbie, and let me be to just quietly leave the forum. Alternatively, carry on, and I will reply to everything that you say – I am not the one that started the name-calling.

It might be better if you put us all on ignore. You don't come across as the sort of guy that I'd like to help in the future anyway, so you won't lose much.

you were already on ignore saneigloo before you posted the above, I just made the mistake of clapping eyes on your response before logging in.

Just to answer you, I couldn't agree more and I will just have to pass when it comes to gaining access to your incredibly vast wealth of knowledge, and I apologise for coming on here and ruffling the feathers of your little triumvirate clique. After reading your excellent, thoughtfully tailored advice for a member on here called jokscot, the overall impact of such a loss is only just starting to dawn on me and i know that i am going to come to regret not having access to such helpful, truthful, unbiased advice in the future.

and after less than 4 months membership you decide to wade in and speak on behalf of other members? - i'm sure there is a "disorder" tag for that as well somewhere if i could be bothered to look.

You think that's a "petrol bomb"? - bless..

When it comes to needing help I would advise you to look in the mirror

After 18 months away from the forum, you turn up and throw in a petrol bomb of a post, and then, when people react, you block the most knowledgeable contributors and tell us how you are going to keep on and on unless you have the last word.

What is wrong with you?

This has absolutely nothing to do with the above picture, and all to do with "Free Speech"

Do you remember what that is Tony1951?

I decided to add my thoughts, nothing antagonistic, just stating my experience and then i got jumped on - if several people had answered differently, or if the comment had been totally ignored then you wouldn't have seen or heard from me again, could have been that simple.
