BATTERY REPLACEMENT

Featured Replies

I HAVE A E BIKE 36 VOLT 350 W FACTORY 12.5 AH BATTERY NOW DEAD

I WANT TO PURCHASE A 36 VOLT 500W 50AH BATTERY TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL BATTERY

CAN ANYONE PLEASE ADVISE IF I CAN DO THIS?

THANK YOU ANYONE IN ADVANCE

Need pics of bike and battery, and make and model

You won't be able to replace a 12.5ah with a 50ah as it will be 4 times larger in size so will not fit

As egroover says, need pics. A 500v 26v battery will be just under 14aH, so you probably will find one unless the bike has an 'awkward' battery.

50ah you having a laugh, as well as being massive and bloody heavy. It will cost about £1200 if not more.

If however you mean 15ah then it isn't a problem.

I KNOW LITTLE ABOUT E BIKES I LEARNED A LESSON POST HERE FIRST TO GET EXPERIENCED MEMBERS OPINIONS

450wh to 1800 wh is huge jump in capacity and range, it will take ever and a day to charge at 2/3a. If one wants to take the risk and to lose the battery cost within a year then just be warned.

$450/£375 isn't cheap but is for such a battery of that size, good genuine wholsale cells for self build are £3 - £4 each otherwise retail £8 - £9.

A 50ah battery using 21700 cells is 10 cells in parallel x 10 series = 100 cells or 7.8kg in cells alone. Pretty sure customs duty/handling will be apllied.

Cells will be a no name china cell rather then a known china branded cell.

The prices for these packs just don't add up and one is taking an aweful risk with little or no redress.

Surely as 1800wh battery will have many parallel groups and so be fine to charge at much more than 2 amps?
It will charge at a higher current rate though would require more expenditure, then the current one in use.

It will be better to buy a battery thta is idel for the use in mind, so miles/range likely to be used per day and regularly charge it up with a little over head capacity.

50ah is huge for an ebike/trike and could offer 180 miles of range.

Thank you for your educated reply

For my cargo bike and trailer use the range I need is 11 miles (5.5 each way) to do my work needed with my bees, I factor in thta I may have to do the sam journey twice in one day or on a consective day. I built my battery to for just that with a bit of head way, a lighter 21700 battery pack with just 24 cells for a 8.4ah 44v/12s pack. The pack comes in at under 2kg and I can do the 22 miles (2 return journeys) without deep discharging the pack to low, typically if towing 200lbs I still have 3.5- 3.65v per cell remaining.

The same for my frot hub motored Roadrat the 44v 6ah battery can do 25 - 30 miles with lighter use or tow a trailer with and do the 22 miles if needed. The small battery is 1.4 kg.

Carrying more battery weight then one really needs besides making the bike heavier means more power is used up just to carry that extra weight.

One needs to weigh up the usage, if it is for touring or days out then one needs to go with a large capacity battery to manage the distance or a couple to do the same job, if only using locally for low mileage of less then 25miles then a lighte rsmaller battery will be plenty.

Lighter smaller batteries charge quicker, cost less and weigh less and are more discreet.

I had someone looking at my Roadrat the other day and they pointed out the rear hub motor was give away as was the hidden battery in the under bar bag.

Two both points I told them they were totally wrong to which they didn't believe me.

I pointed out the rear was in fact an alfine 8 hub gears and the front was the hub motor to which they thought was braked/ light dynamo hub, I pointed out they didn't look properly as the bike had no lights fitted and both wheels were fitted with brake rotors.

The under bar bag I unzipped to show just the controller and wiring neatly concealed , they were still guessing at the battery and assumed it was in the panniers.

The fact the auminium water bottle was in it's normal place in a bottle holder in the triangle passed the totally by.

THANK YOU -MY FRIEND IS HANDICAPPED AND THE BIKE IS HIS LIFE

HE PLANS HIS DAY AROUND MILAGE -I WILL KEEP EVERYONE POSTED WHEN THGE BATTERY ARRIVES FROM CHINA AND HE USES -DELIVERY TO ME ABOUT 3 WEEKS

Sounds like despite the advice, you have already purchased this battery...hope it doesn't end the same way it did for billyboya

Billyboya bough a 25ah littokala battery it lasted 8 months and is now scrap value.

No it was a 48V 30ah but yes its now in the local rubbish tip. paid 176GBP for only lasted 8 months. and I see yours is from same place Liitokala and I got mine from Aliexpress, I even managed to chat to 9 agents, until they blocked me from doing so, all said same thing they will help me get a refund, But got nothing. also uploaded pics, video of battery, plus also mailed Liitkola got nothing back from them at all. so now have also closed my account with Aliexpress. I spent months fixing my electric moped. only for it to be now sold as spares. funny now i have closed my account with Aliexpress. they bombard me with offers. Ive rerouted them to the rubbish bin. so be warned

The capacity matters not , the fact is any mulitple of five in ah and the cells used are the same.

One expects it is pot luck with littokala 21700 cells , one may be lucky and get some reasonble cells or one like Billy may be unlucky and get some bad cells.

Oh I didnt realise that, btw I have not as of yet sold my old erider moped. as spares, as not had the time. been so busy. How much do you think my old electric model 15 erider moped would sell as spares. who ever buys it and fits a new battery will have a decent moped then.

What you get is what someone wishes to pay, we know it works but others won't .

The 5000mah /5ah cell used is simply connected in parallel, so for 30ah there ar six in parallel and for 50ah there are ten in parallel.

I'd sell it on ebay as an auction, then you'll definitely sell it and the market will determine the selling price. Hopefully you'll get a couple or more bidding against each other.

As far as knowing it's good to go, just needs a battery, you could provide a link in the listing to this thread, so they'll know you are being honest

Good luck
