March 21Mar 21 Hi, I have been given a bike but the power keeps cutting out, I have a system LY48V1000W and would like to convert it to pedal assist, (for several reasons) which unit/controller should I buy to work with the Wheel 1000W and Battery that seems to be ok?
March 21Mar 21 a 1000w motor is beyond the scope of this group and if planning on riding on uk roads check out the seizures thread in here thats regularly updated. endless-sphere.com/ is a US based site for all sorts of ev's and bikes 'JUST DONT MENTION TRUMP' Unless for exclusively ridding on private land- I would consider just getting a regulation compliant kit for use on the roads.. the 15.5mph speed cap on assistance wont stop you pedalling faster if you can, and motorists wont be surprised by a 25mph bike on the flat. Sorry for the lecture, but i have a similar "gift" sat at the back of my garage catching dust..

If it keeps cutting out the battery probably isn't ok. Bin it and buy a legal kit.
March 21Mar 21 Author Hi, thanks for the reply, I know that the current confit is illegal and thought if the bike was changed to pedal assist with max assist of 15mph it would be ok and as I will not be belting around it would be ok, so I need to throw away the rear wheel, controller and grip twist and buy all replacements?
March 21Mar 21 The throttle may be of use if you select a controller which only enables the throttle when pedalling Only the hub/motor needs replacing and a spoke set and spanner can be sourced from amazon for less than £20- you tube has demystified any 'black arts' A 15a kt controller (will allow a throttle) and compatible display is circa £100, cheaper options exist but the kt brand offers a selection of display options and a configurable set up.. 36v batteries are cheaper, 48v batteries will give you more power on hills and a better range.. an all in one kit from a supplier like yose-power (my selection) is an easier less complex ordering experience.. Perhaps if you detail what you want from an ebike and where your likely to ride it (hills?) and post a pic of your donor bike specific suggestions could be forthcoming? EDIT- as an afterthought its worth mentioning that the regulations are broad enough for anyone to find or build a legal and suitable ebike from the most aggressive athletic hill climber to the laziest mega stone lard arse ( a catagory im closer to than the former..) Not so. What ever one does to the bike it will always be illegal due to the 1kw motor rating. Typically because of the faster motor windings for 1kw hubs the performance will be pants using low amp rated controllers , 25- 30a is the norm to get the best out of the hubs. Using low amp rated controllers will produce lack of torque to make the hubs worth using.

You need to tell us about the controller. What is the maximum current written on it? Tell us more about the cutting out. When does it do it?
