Thanks. I really need to sort out the chainline. Come up with a proper method for checking if its right or not ...

Regarding the issue with the motor not generating 36volts. Its been suggested to me that as its not in a wheel it never will which I tend to think is probably true. Do you think?

Moved the motor over a bit and fitted a new chainwheel which has not broken so far! ... Here is a photo with a line drawn on it to show my current chainline which is still not quite right. Will be moving the motor again in the direction of the arrow:

Having moved the motor the chainline is much improved. However, my chainwheel installation leaves much to be desired. Cycled to work this morning shaving off the red wheel plastic from my chainwheels. I wondered what that nosie was! ...

A challenging project for sure. Keep at it you will get there :)

Regards

Jerry

Thanks for the encouragement Jerry. I most admit I did get to quite a low point this weekend when I realised that by moving the motor the HAC (hub adapter collar) was touching the frame! ... Out with the file again! ... and then the controller had to be moved! ...... Louise asking why the bike was in the kitchen again and how long is it going to take? .... to which I replied with a stoney silence ... anyway, thats what its all about .. ups and downs... on an up at the moment and looking forward to the ride home ...

Alan take heart, my EBrompton was quite a challenge especially as I had never built a wheel before. When I got the wrong motor all the way from China with a roller brake fitting, I felt like chucking it all in. I was very down at that point too :(

Then I worked out how to take the motor apart and adapt it :)

I learnt so much as are you and it will put you on good ground for your next project!

Regards

Jerry

Ok... next mistake ... next challange ... The section of hose pipe that was protecting the front forks AND the brake cable that is cable tied to it failed ... I cycled home without that protection and have now punctured my magura marta disc front brake cable. I know its punctured because royal blue fluid went everywhere and when you try to brake there is nothing there! ... If found some utube vids on bleeding etc ... but nothing on cable suppliers ... Does anyone know where I can get some cable? Is my lbs likely to stock this? ... Obviously I'll find out tomorrow but it would be good to know ... also, any tips from members who are experienced with these breaks ...

thanks d8veh. Ordered ... I think where I've gone wrong is when I dropped down to the smaller chainring. This has taken the chainline 5mm or so closer to the frame and closer to trouble! ... Although having said that if I had secured my piece of hose correctly then it would be fine ....

Now I'm looking for a bleeding kit and some of that blue stuff.

Got my cable. Could use some advise on what to do. Perhaps some step by step postings if you have the energy! .. and I'll take pictures of everything I do ...

The current status is the damaged cable is still connected probably with some fluid in the system. Here are the cable ends:

How do I know that these endings are ok for my Magura brakes?

Got my cable ...

Umm.. Just been reading this article on bikeradar:

Workshop: How To Change A Hydraulic Disc Brake Hose - BikeRadar

I need to change the endings or get a cable with the current endings that look like this:

Can I divorce the endings from the cables or is this not recommended?

Question remains: can I get the connectors off the old and new cables and make up my new cable? .....

Hi Alan if you type the model of your brake into the searchbox on this page it should come up with the info you require:

Search: MAGURA - The Passion People!

With regard to re-using the hose ends, If you can remove them from the old hose without them getting damaged, and the new hose you have is a match with the old one for internal and external diameter, and material the hose is made of is the same it should work fine :)

thanks oigoi. Cycle Kingdom in Fleet is quite close and can make a cable up for me for £15.00 and could do the complete job for about £30.00 depending on the state of the pads .. might give me a bit off if I part exchange the other cable ..

hi,

if somebody searching a winterjob, check this offer:

eBay: Neue und gebrauchte Elektronikartikel, Autos, Kleidung, Sammlerst

it shows a near by complete chaindrivesystem with a bafang swxk(hall-version - 190rpm) with controller, speedlimiter, crankfreewheel, Software and setup-wire for the controller and the motor have a turned clutchsystem inside so that you have the sprocket(velosolo 19th) on the right side.

on second foto you can see how it can look when it is ready build.

regards

frank

My new cable has come with a ferrule which has not been crimped. Not sure why. I don't have a crimper and will avoid the temptation of using a pliers which was my first thought ...

I suppose its because they didn't have the brake lever and the crimping is dependant it. I notice on the photo of my old cable that the ferrule is crimped a little way from the cable end:

When I say ferrule I mean olive! ... and it seems it may not need crimping! ... There is a small thread at the cable end that may screw into the brake lever ..

umm or maybe not! ...

No. Thats rubbish. I remember when I took the old cable off. There was no unscrewing. Therefore the ferrule or olive needs to be crimped! ...

Edited by kitchenman

I think if it is an olive it will crimp itself when you tighten the pipe fitting. That is was usually happens with pipe olives in my experience but I haven't worked on maguras before

Ah! Interesting. A self crimping olive. Excellent. Would definitely not thought of that!

Thanks oigoi.

Only bad news was another chainwheel failure which must have happend this morning and at £10 a pop I really need to sort it.
