    new shocks

It is not any old 8spd, was developed from ground up specifically to handle power eMTB. Big steps between ratios and doesn't mind shifting under full power, not something I recommend for 11spds. As with all new products the price is high to help recover R&D, should drop in future especially if...

How do you ride your Ebike for Max distance

On my commute which has significant climb, STEPs drive on High will use about twice as much battery capacity (30%) compared to Eco at (15%).

    Are battery covers worth it?

Check with shimano as I think they give 2yr warranty.

New Yamaha powered e-bikes at £1399

Great thing about ebikes is being able adjust assist level to match you fitness. The idea is to use an assist level that makes riding fun, which means you will ride more and improve your fitness.

If you can walk and pedal on flat then an pedal assist bike will get you up most hills, with less effort than walking.

    Sexist or realist?

My wifes bike as spare tube, levers and pump, she may not know how to use them but at least any passerby would be able to do repair. The other plus is her tyres are really easy to remove.

    Wheels

My wife's bike has 700C wheels and tyres, I've tried a 27.5 wheel from MTB on it and it works. Plus side is more clearance between mudguards, a must if using off road in muddy conditions. Get slightly lower gear which is good off road, downside is 25km/hr assist cutoff will now be lower actual...

    Are battery covers worth it?

I've had same problem with my Steps battery, it is not temperature related but faulty battery pack. First battery went from 25% to 8%, warranty replacement does it at 15%. My theory is it is poorly balanced battery cells, one cell goes flat is 3v-1v, this 2v drop is enough to bring whole pack to...

To go tubeless or not to go tubeless.

I bought good size (70lpm) 12V one from local car parts shop. Run it off a gelcel battery as it is easier than use car to power it. Will inflate tyre to 60psi in 30sec, also useful for wheelbarrow tyres and topping up car. The small ones (10lpm) will work but take forever and may not do a...

Excellent deal especially for CX drive. At this price you could afford to use it as a commuter.

ARCC Moulton and the Process of Getting There (LONG)

In regards to weight, 20kg is about as lite a mid drive as your partner is likely to find. She might be able to lift 17.5kg (battery removed) up stairs, alternately use walk mode to wheel bike upstairs. I've successfully used Steps drive to walk bike up big dirt track stairs. A rack mount...

Nelson, I wish. Wellington harbour, taken from Mt KauKau. At this time of year the photo should be of KauKau from boat, while catching snapper. Luckily I now have Cube to ride while waiting for better boating weather.

Same height and found large (stereo 140) perfect fit. Been great buy so far. The only issue is plastic engine cover rubbing against chain, LBS to sort in new year.

    cube reaction pro e bike.

Don't upgrade to 11spd unless you need extra low gears for climbing. The freewheel is noisy as, only good thing about it is pedestrians hear you coming and step aside. Just read specs on two bikes, what I said about 11spd still stands, I suggest test ride and decide for yourself. The air fork...

What are power assist buttons like to use. My cripe with standard buttons is that too easy to double or triple tap eg shift from tour to off. Can't always use them without looking. How is walk button, looks like is thumb operated now which should be plus. Bosch may make great drives but their...

Had my first ride at local MTB with new bike, loving the FS and dropper seat on rough steep tracks. Swap bikes with my son on one ascent to prove I can still climb steeper tracks unassisted. Ran into one of his classmates and gave him his first ride of ebike, he was impressed.

Christmas day ride with my son and his new Giant trance 2. On ground in background. This is taken from trig station at Belmont Regional Park in Wellington, looking south to harbour entrance. Quite a climb ( for my son anyway) up to trig station even though we park car 2/3 way up hill. Did...
