Prices of the electricity we use to charge

They do it as a sort of intellectual exercise or battle of wits. I reckon that most don't even believe it. What gets them every time is that they have no argument against and no explanation for the gyroscope tilting as you fly around the planet. The lighthouses that sink as you sail away from...

    Battery reccomendation for BAFNAG

Before you order, do you know that 52v is not legal in the UK and police are seizing illegal bikes everywhere? A BBSHD is also illegal. https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/more-seizures.48053/

    Crank removal

It's a hexagon to remove the nut on the end of the crank if you have one.

    Off grid battery charging

My folding 200w panels are 6kg, so 400w is going to be over 10kg. A petrol generator is 9kg plus fuel.

    More Seizures

There is no regulation on the size of the motor. Heinzmann, Bionx and Swiss Drive are all the same size as the one he pointed out, and they're completely legal.

    Off grid battery charging

I have two VTOman power stations both with extension batteries. They work really well and are a lot cheaper than most. You can get 3kwh plus solar panels for £999: VTOMAN 3096Wh Portable Power Station Bundle with Extra Battery & 220W Solar Panel Included - Up to 4400W Solar Power Generator for...

    Off grid battery charging

Are you wanting to take something on the bike or are you travelling in a car with the bike? That kit looks sort of OK. The charge controller is perfect. That was the thing I was thinking of. It would be good if you could get it on its own, but probably very expensive, like the whole kit. If...

What shifter to match bike derailleur

Thanks, Neal. That's exactly my experience. It's like switching from cable to hydraulic brakes: Once you've tried them, there's no way back. Thumb shifters feel just plain daft afterwards.

    Off grid battery charging

The best solution for off-grid charging is a small petrol generator unless you have a campervan with substantial solar panels and at least 200Ah of leisure batteries. As partially explained above, a single leisure battery doesn't hold enough charge. A 100ah lead battery has about 50ah of...

JOBOBIKE – Who rides one and can comment on its suitability for everyday use?

For everyday use, rear hub-motors are always better. Look for a 48v one if you have steep hills or if you're heavy.

What shifter to match bike derailleur

I don't believe you. Everybody who I know that has tried them loves them. Show me any forum post where somebody, who has actual experience, has posted about your imagined problem being true.

What shifter to match bike derailleur

You've obviously never used one. All road bike hydraulic brakes operate like that, and I've been using these on my bikes for 15 years with zero problems. Shifting is much easier than with a thumb shifter and you never accidentally pull the brake or shifter when you want the other. That's...

    Off grid battery charging

Use a buck converter to step up the voltage from 12v to say 50v, then feed that into the charge controller, which steps it back down to 42v or whatever you set it to. Buck converter: DC-DC Constant Current Boost Converter 400W Step-Up Converter Voltage Regulator 8.5-50V To 10-60V for Electric...

Conversion cable for front hub motor to connect to Swytch battery/ power

You can't convert if the other connector is a 9-pin. One is a sensorless motor, the other is sensored. You need a sensorless or dual mode controller for the sensorless motor. A sensorless controller can often work a sensored motor, but never as good as a controller for sensored motors. Your...

    Off grid battery charging

What batteries are they? Normal Chinese ones can be charged from the 12v with a step up buck converter/ charge controller that you can buy very cheap from Aliexpress. If the battery uses comms, you need a much more expensive solution.

What shifter to match bike derailleur

Any Shimano 8 speed shifter will work with your derailleur. it's a shame you're too late now, but you could have got one of the Shimano combined hydraulic brake shifters, which are really good. I try to fit them on all my bikes. they're normally around £50 a pair, but sometimes £40, and I just...

You can use an old chain and a screwdriver rather than a chain-whip tool. You still need the cassette removal tool for the locking ring.

    Help! My next project

Suppliers don't have a clue how their stuff works. You'd be wasting your time. there is nothing wrong with what you have. You just have to figure out how to use it. Try what I suggested in post #206. I'm pretty sure that it'll solve your issue.
