I had an idea the other day whilst riding, of a law to require the use of a speed restrictor on any road that was subject to a speed limit below the national one. So all e-bikes would be required to have an equivalent of the Wisper's green button. Admittedly unenforceable, but then no more than...

    Wisper 905se battery price.

An old chestnut of a question, I know, but do you have any plans to make the new battery features available as a retrofit to the 2008 model bikes?

    Etra

Now, that's a very good question, as I see an argument for a new class of two wheeled vehicle that requires a registered owner, but no licence. Of course there's the whole buisiness of proof of identity if one were to be stopped by the police, but this could be included in the registration...

    Wisper 905se battery price.

Well thats good to know, as I have the 14Ah version, and generally don't run it to any less than half capacity - going by the rough approximation of the voltage lights. I suppose this means that I'm not putting the battery under any great stress, particularly as my journeys rarely involve any...

    Wisper 905se battery price.

So, should the general rule of thumb be to always puchase the largest capacity battery you can afford, irrespective of your range requirement? It'd be interesting to see some data relating to how the extra weight affects the equation, as I'd guess that in reality there's a natural balance point...

    Honda Electric Unicycle

Love it! :D Could be very useful for people who need a wheelchair for intermittent use, it would suffer from the Dalek problem when it comes to stepped or uneven surfaces. Maybe it'd be very handy for the elderly/less mobile in large supermarkets?

    New BionX motor+hub gear

The problem being one of enforcement, particularly in rural areas. The only way I can see speed limits having any effect on peoples' behavior is to physicaly limit the top speed their vehicles can achieve. In the case of cars & motorbikes, which are generaly way overpowered for their purpose...

    Electric bikes - a retrospective

This was why, in the other thread, I was contemplating the idea of component standards across manufacturers. To affect, as you put it Alex, what the arrival of the IBM pc did for the computer industry. Or rather maybe what the x86 processor did. If ideas and innovations could be licenced between...

So what's the way around this? Barter? Do they like peas in China? :D How many Bramley's to the Battery?

    50 Cycles SALE!

Are there no battery manufacturers in Europe? As surely this would mitigate a large chunk of the import cost. Or is labour so cheap in China, that this would cancel out any benefit?

    E-bike standardisation anyone?

Absolutely, and cosidering the rise of the e-bike in the Netherlands, you'd think that EA was the perfect place to start the revolution (pardon the pun :D ). After all, lots of people come here for cycling hoidays because of the terrain. Instead, the markting focus has been 'help with the...

    E-bike standardisation anyone?

I disagree, as saying this is saying that the culture in the UK is incapable of evolving, and that people's attitudes are entrenched and immovable. I think a lot more people would have a go, if it were a) cheaper, b)better publicised, & c) presented as a thought through, neatly packaged...

    E-bike standardisation anyone?

Well I took the stuff about a hub geared motor to be more speculation on behalf of the journalist, but Tazio's reference to their entry being "in a few years” sounds like it's not imminent anyway, sadly. Still it means that the minnows have a chance to set the stage before the sharks turn up I'd...

    E-bike standardisation anyone?

Interesting - now we know where Wisper sourced their connectors for the controller & FCB, pity there isn't an easy source for them here, without hassling Wisper Service. Not that I need any right now, but if I should in the future, it'd be nice to be able to simply order them from a website...

    50 Cycles SALE!

Indeed, but with prices still increasing for the green alternatives, isn't it about time that retailers, or maybe even the government, seriously looked at some kind of leasing scheme? I'm so glad I bought my Wisper when I did...I just hope the greed triggered financial mess has settled by the...

    E-bike standardisation anyone?

If it's not based on cost, then one wonders why the latching variety isn't used, as surely part of their design is to make a secure connection, as well as being easier to release, with them not being reliant on friction to hold them together. Yes, the Wisper 2008 battery packs use the...

    E-bike standardisation anyone?

Well I can only say that e-bike manufacturers would hope to disagree with you, and that I was refering to how e-biking fits into the public conciousness as a method of personal transport. For example, some friends who I've told about my bike immediately associate it with a mobility scooter...

    E-bike standardisation anyone?

I believe the 2009 Wisper battery packs also use XLRs for charging, the 2008 has some weird Co-ax type thing (that I've never been able to identify). Working in the entertainment industry (where XLRs are par for the course - in a variety of pin number configurations), I don't quite understand...
