    e-bike...without pedals

I can see this being popular with 'city types', and other children :D . Anyone remember the sight of grown men/women on microscooters? I do, thought it was terribly funny, particularly as they all looked so damn serious!:D

Front wheel hubs motors v's rear wheel

With the pottential forthcomming regulation change to allow 500w e-bikes, do you think the point could be stretched to include 2x250w motor set ups? You could have one pedelec and one throttle to give a kind of boost function.

    Wisper 905se sport.......Brakes

Yes, in Wisper's defence, it seems they have gone to great leangths to address people's concens over their braking systems. I believe they have switched supplier for the levers again for their forthcomming models to Tektro, a known name in the cycling industry, with a fair range of products on...

What do you think of Jazz music?

Was one of them a drummer?:D The old joke being that a drummer is someone who hangs around with musicians :D :D

    Wisper 905se sport.......Brakes

Doh! Yes, I meant V-brakes rather than caliper :o Not sure if the frame would take calipers anyway.

    Wisper 905se sport.......Brakes

I've got the same bike as you, and swapped the brakes for 'Avid Single Digit 5's they're fairly cheap, but make one hell of a difference. (I keep reading APSE as ARSE too :D)

I broke it again, I'm getting good at this.

I hope it works out for you, I have a 53t chainring, so sadly it wouldn't work for me :( Still my chain doesn't come off too often, so mustn't grumble :)

I broke it again, I'm getting good at this.

Which chain gadget did you buy? I've been looking for one, but so far haven't seen one that would be compatible with the Wisper setup. I'd've thought that flat bars would suit your purpose better than ones with an upsweep, to effectively make them lower. Also, looking at the butterfly bars, I...

I broke it again, I'm getting good at this.

If you lower the handlebars and adjust them forward slightly, this will put more of your weight onto your arms, and make you sit further forward as it will be more of a stretch to reach them. I'd start by just un locking the bar stem, and pushing the bars forward, this will lower them by...

    E-bike article in today's Guardian

I can only speak as I found in the 17 years I was there, people's attitudes to 'friends' are fine, but the immediate distrust of strangers is quite frankly ridiculous, and once you're no longer anywhere near the place, the contrast is stark. I think the mitigating factor being one of sheer...

    E-bike article in today's Guardian

I know what you mean about having to get used to people being friendly, having moved to EA from London about 2years ago. On the subject of 7/7, there was a lot of unfounded paranoia afterward, I say unfounded as I believe that you're far more likely to be hit by a truck whilst cycling in London...

I agree, 30mph would be too fast for what, even with the battery & motor, is still a comparatively lightweight vehicle. At 30, it could be all too tempting to go into corners too fast and end up losing grip with the enevitable consequences. On my Wisper, in the dry, I can happily take corners at...

Pity the proposal doesn't include an increase in speed, as a limit of 20mph would be somewhat more sensible, as discussed earlier. The 500W power rating would make a big difference to people in hilly areas though.

Front wheel hubs motors v's rear wheel

People here have also aluded to a possible lack of traction on steep hills with a front motor, being caused by the wheel lifting slightly. Of course, if the motor was really heavy, it'd probably compensate for this. On the subject of batteries, I think there's a real gap in the market for a...

Out of interest, where would you take a high powered e-bike for an MOT? I presume there'd need to be an accredited LBS somewhere, as I can only imagine what they'd say at the local garage :D .

Absolutely, and considering that the person most endangered by a cyclist is the cyclist themselves, I believe that most of us could be trusted to behave responsibly.

Wow, having just looked up the U.S. legislation, I have to say I'm impressed, was expecting something much more conservative. As you say though Flecc, an individual state's ability to overide it relegates it to the power of a guideline, as would an equivalent condition here. On the subject of...

Perhaps, as e-bikers, we should be lobying for legislation that is both safe and practical, instead of leaving it up to the powers that be. What did you guys think of my idea, anyway? I believe the more debate we have on open forums, the more our voice is likely to be heared. Any...
