    2016 KTM thread

The shop manager asked the same question rhetorically after the last GT sale yesterday afternoon. His answer to himself was the shop would routinely give 10 per cent, whatever stock the other shops had. It was an easy sale, the customer was in the shop for 10 minutes and just swung his leg...

    2016 KTM thread

In this instance the bikes are routinely being sold at 10 per cent cash discount off recommended retail, so I don't think there's any brand damage. The shop will discount most bikes by that amount, assuming they are not being bought on bike to work. I've been helping out in the shop a bit...

    Belt drive ratio change

I don't claim to fully grasp your idea, but the Gates belt is notoriously picky for tension and line. This leads me to suggest the system might work better with a chain. Well done for a having a think about it. If no one did as you are doing, we would all still be riding penny farthings.

    2016 KTM thread

The bicycle industry has always been better at launching new models than supplying them. My local bike shop bought a job lot of £400 GT mountain bikes on clearance. The reason the owner did it is he knows the other two local shops have little or nothing in their brands at that price, and won't...

    Do you swing both ways?

I know some of you do - ride powered and unpowered bicycles. I've recently joined that select band with the purchase of a Cannondale mountain bike. It's taken me a month or two to get to grips with it, but I can now manage - and enjoy - rides of up to 20 miles. While I don't plan to abandon...

    Punctures............

What bike, Twangers? I get the impression Tannus are recommended for 'commuting' - road and well made cycle paths. They don't perform well on softer stuff.

    Punctures............

The Schwalbe website is a mine of useful tyre information. They also make excellent tyres - when used in the correct application. There is a wide choice in most sizes, but it's worth trawling through the specs to get the one that's right for you. Haibike ought to know better, but I'm afraid...

    Punctures............

Your Racing Ralph tyres are not what Schwalbe call 'ebike ready' and are designed for racing, so very lightweight. No doubt Schwalbe would say it's no surprise you were getting punctures. I see there is an ebike ready Smart Sam Plus, which also has a semi-knobbly tread. The Greenguard...

Bosch Nyon Left Side Control unit

The remote is connected to the rear of the mounting bracket of the main unit. It appears to be held in place by what I am going to nominate as four of the smallest cross head screws in the world. A fiddly job, but should be doable.

    Kudos Tornado 'Eats Hills'

The Schwalbe Road Cruiser tyres are not ideal for a heavy hub motored ebike. Front ought to be OK, but something from Schwalbe's ebike ready range would be better. I doubt the owner will want to junk a new set of tyres, but he should keep an eye on the sidewalls for cracks.

Right kit for Boardman Hybrid Team and 33 mile round hilly commute

I can get 16 or so miles out of my Bosch bike on eco setting before the first battery indicator goes out. If no lights go out on the way home, I think you may have a battery indicator problem. But there are lots of variables. You've been doing your 17 mile commute on an ordinary bike, most...

Advice on carrying 2 bikes on car, please.

The Motus should be a fairly standard length for a hybrid bike, although it may have been designed with a slightly longer wheelbase for ride comfort. Two of those on a roof rack sounds a bit too much to me, but if you've done it and it seems OK then fair enough. Tow ball mounted carriers are...

    Some conversion help please

Twenty plus stone and a motor is a lot for a rear wheel to carry. A front hub motor would even the load and stresses a bit. Have a word with Cyclezee. The Sprint Primo is a ready made, sturdy front hub bike with a pokey motor. Something of a bargain for under £800...

Right kit for Boardman Hybrid Team and 33 mile round hilly commute

Well-proven, pokey motor and I'm sure Cyclezee offers a fitting service. A few more battery options as well.

Right kit for Boardman Hybrid Team and 33 mile round hilly commute

I think a front hub motor has been mentioned in this thread. Just so as the OP is aware, his bike has carbon forks so that's not an option. Rear hub or crank drive is the choice.

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect. Impressive range.

I don't keep mileage records which means my comments are very subjective. I've replaced the chain on the Rose, but only because changing the gearing meant the original was too short. The Rose is a hub gear bike, so the chain line is always perfect and there's no wear from derailing it and...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect. Impressive range.

No chain problems on my Bosch bikes. That could change, although after several thousand miles I don't expect it to. Chains are a consumable item and regular replacement must reduce the risk of a break. Every 1,000 miles looks like overkill to me, it's not as if the chain is keeping a...
